Radiator for UK M5 - or anyone breaking for spares ?

Had a puff of steam & temp gauge shot up a couple of weeks ago, so pulled the bonnet & the Rad had blown off the top hose on the offside, along with most of the plastic/fibre mounting pipe !.

Aluminium Radiator BMW 5 Series E28 M5 535i 04/81-12/87 on eBay, also, BMW, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 20-Mar-09 16:02:21 GMT)

I emailed these guy's above on ebay to get an idea if their Nissens Rad would fit even though their Tech drawing does not match the Mid Rad outlet on the nearside but as its advertised as fitting M535i I kind of doubt it ?, just wondered if any of you other RHD M5 owners had invested in a Rad recently or anytime in the past at a reasonable price.

Appreciate any pointers here as I am due home next week from work & need to get my wheels sorted Asap, or I will be stuck with the good halfs Probe !! ( Ford that is ! )

Cheers

Hi Fishy .....sorry to hear about your misfortune m8 ......The width of the Nissens rad on your link is correct at 575mm and I'm pretty certain that the fitments will be the same as the M535i .

I have a Behr unit on my E28 M5 IIRC but have used Nissens rads on my E34 M5s without issue .

Have you called ECP or GSF ?

I'm curious to hear more of your other half's probe ...... Does it feel like a jab or a solid punch ?

My wife can't wrestle .........but you should see her box !

I know a BMW dealership which will supply a new E28 M5 radiator for £300 including delivery. I can PM you their contact details if you're interested.

I need a new rad myself, as the core on mine is slightly twisted after an accident - very frustrating as the radiator is only 3 years old.

David, Theo,

Sorry for taking so long to reply but was working away from home,

David , I did try ECP (No stock) & GSF without success & have also tried the Nissens route through Powersparks on the Bay unfortunately they were less than helpful quoting that they have 100's of radiators for BMW's (their words ) & they could not possibly check up for me !
That was despite giving the Model, Year of mnfctr, engine size & VIN no, and also picture of their Rad & picture of my M5 Rad showing obvious outlet differences ? so would not recommend them to anyone !.
LOL about your wife's lack of wrestling capabilities & other attribute's

I have managed to source a rad from Bay C/with a boot lid inner trim which my car was missing for some reason when i bought it the tools were all there, and no obvious damage to suggest a shunt ?, anyway both items delivered for £115 which is probably reasonable considering how often these parts are available.

Unfortunately I could be buying the same issue with this radiator but need to get the car driveable in short term, and will try & source a reasonable priced new item when possible.

Theo,

I have an aquaintance who used to work for BMW & he is going to price a new one for me but thank you kindly anyway, just a suggestion but most radiator repair shops (Serck etc) will usually replace your core at a reasonable price rather than go the replacement route & possibly even straighten the rad chassis at same time.

Excuse my laziness answering both you guy's at same time

Cheers
