Anyone have the TriFlow exhaust system on their E28 M5?

Hey,

I have had my E28 for a while now. It has most of the basic upgrades such as the chip, P-Flow, headers, exhaust, E34 M5 wheels + brakes...etc.

I will be purchasing the Bavarian sport suspension which will be installed once the sun comes out here in Canada, and was wondering if the TriFlow was really what is advertised. Bavarian estimates 20HP increase!

Anyway, if anyone has this setup, it would be really cool to hear your thoughts.

And my other question is that the exhaust I have now is in perfect condition. Straight pipe, 2 silencers, no cats, and 850i end pipes. Would this be worth anything?

The car has been sitting in my garage collecting dust since October and I just can't wait to take the beast out!

Cheers:cheers:

Valenta,

I have a complete BB-Tri Flow Exhaust on my race prepped E28 M5. I also deleted the catalytic converters and installed custom built test pipes.

I love the exhaust, it looks really nice and aggressive and it sounds unbelievable. However, that being said, I felt little or no gain in power. I would be very wary of any claim of 20 horsepower from an exhaust. My car has many engine modifications and the only one that gave a significant boost in hp (verified by a dyno) was a Schrick 280 cam.

The exhaust looks and sounds great, but 20 hp, no way. Maybe 5-8 at most especially if your exhaust is really restrcitive.

There have been some reports from other BMW owners of cracking on these exhausts but mine has about 5000 hard track/race driven miles with no problems.

Hope this helps!

I also have a high flow exhaust on mine. i don't know how much hp it gave me because I haven't been on the dyno, but the sound is reward enough. My friends tell me they can here me coming from 3 blocks away.

p.s. Jon, that car is stunning.

Thanx a lot for the help!

But what's the deal with cracking?????

I hope there is some sort of warranty for that sort of thing happening? Because I am not the kind of guy that shifts at 1500 RPM or does not pass 100 km/h! It's 6500 RPM and 260 km/h all the time until a Porsche or E39 M5 think I am a rice boy and spent thousands of $$$$ for M5 wheels, Euro M5 bumpers and 2 M5 badges!

Anyway, thanx agin for the help!

exhaust

I have heard schumis exhaust and oh yeah, its loud. i think its the best straight six i have ever heard. and at high revs, just orgasmic, even if youre riding along.

im not an exhaust expert but most N/A cars unless they have an extremely restrictive exhaust, wont yield a large gain from a free-flowing exhaust. for F/I cars, its a whole different story.

I am in Richmond, on the west end. I will probably be down at VIR with Rosen Autosport for the NASA enduro Feb 16 & 17. I will also be running the full VMSC autocross schedule this yera, so maybe we'll see each other.
