Standard equipment question

Can anyone confirm if all E28 M5's were fitted as standard with a boot (trunk) luggage net?

My car does not have one, so I just assumed that it was missing and was about to order a new one, but I notice that my car does not have the hooks for the luggage net on the battery box. It just has the regular plastic clips to hold the battery box trim in place. On the other side of the boot though below the first aid kit it has the hooks you would associate with a luggage net. So I am wondering, maybe it was never fitted with a luggage net when delivered new.

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Bayerische

I consulted the etk.
The net was available from 3/86.
No idea if it was standard or not (mine is 8/86, has had it , but had even the boot covered in leather...)

I cannot say for certain but suspect that it was standard fitment .

Realoem certainly indicates it's prescence with listing as an option :

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...07&hg=51&fg=65 part 11 .

My word Bayerische , you are certainly going all out to achieve that original E28 M5 badge !

Mine's 1/86, and doesn't have it, but I have no idea if it had it originally. The tool kit was only missing the tommy bar for the spark plug socket and everything else seems to be there, plus the trim clips don't have the hooks either.

Hi
Mine is May 86 and does not have the net, neither does it have the clips. Thus I assume it was an extra. I seem to remeber there was a thread that listed all the options, perhaps its there! Will have to have a search.

regards
dave

Thanks fellas for all of your replies,

I think it is fair to say from the responses that the net was not fitted to all cars, especially since davettf2's car which is a GB spec car and does not have the hooks.

However, I am still confused about mine as it has luggage hooks on one side of the boot and not on the other.

Perhaps Sheik Al Maktoum's (the original owner of my car) shopping in Harrods was too big for a luggage net, and one of his team of garage boys removed it.

I think I will get the luggage net and hooks anyway. I am trying to keep the car as original as possible.

Thanks again for your replies.

Regards,

My car came with the hooks on both sides but no net - so I bought one.

There's no reference to the net in the standard equipment list in either of the brochures I have, neither can I see it in the period accessory catalogue I have.

'Car' magazine (May '87) featured a group test, including Press car 014, C825 STF (now owned by a BMWCCGB Club member). The photo of the boot (page 111, if you have the mag to hand!) clearly shows a luggage net in place. For information, the only factory option this car has apart from Press Preparation (902) was Satin Black Chrome (339) - so not a 'loaded' car at all. This was a 'unique' car in that it was the only one supplied in Carmine red (solid colour).
