E28 M5 fans I need your oppinion E28 M5 vs E24 M6

Hello guys,
I need your opinion: which model is more desirable and more attractive? The E28 M5 or the E24 M6 1988? Which one do you think is more valuable in the future?

Thank you guys,

Regards
Anri

In terms of expense both will be about the same. The M5 is less common, though as far as US spec goes they're fairly close (about 1200 M5s to 1700 M6s).

The cars have the same suspension and drive train, but the M6 tends to be a bit heavier, so the M5 has slightly better handling and performance. Only slightly though.

I guess it's a case of figuring out what you want. The M6 tends to cost more to buy, but both are at the point of retaining value now, and will probably increase in value unless you really add miles. Are you looking for a car for it's collectability? The sixer might be your choice.

Otherwise it's a matter of body style preference. Do you prefer understated 4 door sedan or a more flash coupe? If colour is a consideration, the M5 was available in any colour you want as long as it's black (or get a Euro-spec car if you can find one).

Or, just buy one of each

Value wise, a mint non-cat e28 M5 is more desirable. To me the M6 seems more desirable to BMW collectors than the N/A M5, this is probably because all the n/a M5s are basically the same.

I bought an M6, just because of the look of the car. In my opinion, the E24 M6 is the best looking BMW ever made...

I bought an E28 M5 when my M635 was getting some work done and I was suffering M88 wthdrawal. Between buying it and collecting it, I started having doubts. I wondered if they were too similar and I'd be disappointed in a car I had always wanted. I needn't have worried. I was amazed. It's a far better sporting drive than the M635. Much lighter and nimbler. I had an E30 M3 and I think that the E28 M5 solves all of the E30 M3's shortcomings.

Funny though, despite all that, I still prefer the M635. It has so much more presence than the M5, and it looks just perfect. I know the thing about the M5 is that it's meant to be understated and I like that and I really do like the E28 M5, but it can just look like any old old car, while the M635 is always going to be a stunningly beautiful old car.

They do appear to be undervalued a bit in the US.

I have a nice one for sale if you're interested. Steering wheel may be on the wrong side for you though.

So, to recap, it's the M635 for me - just.

In terms of collectability, the M6 seems to carry more than the M5 in the US. If you're only dealing with US spec to start with, the M6 has more colour/interior combinations - the M5 has two - black/light tan (called natur by BMW) and black/black (fairly rare if you can find an original one).

I'll stick with commenting about the US market - the comment about "undervalued" is acknowledged, though I'd say you have to take into account that everything is cheaper in the US. I'd say a Euro M5 is more collectable than the M635CSi, and both are more than the equivalent US models. However, the cars imported into the US are "Grey Market" and so suffer from modifications to make them comply with DOT/EPA regulations. Finding a good M635CSi in the US is not easy. Finding a good Euro M5 is even harder (actually, finding ANY Euro M5 for sale in the US).

In terms of physical design, I'm on board the 6-er train. I think it's definitely a beautiful car. The fiver is still a sedan, and a relatively box '80s sedan at that. That said, when the time comes to sell (probably in a year or so) I'm not sure which one I'd part with.
