SpeedFreak Detailed: "Shopper1590"s 16k mile Interlagos Blue M5 resurrection!
Hey guys! Very excited about this post, as the transformation throughout was truly a sight to see. I was contacted by Gunnar, "Shopper1590" to do some work on his Interlagos Blue M5. What a beautiful color it is, my all time favorite on these M cars. The vehicle in question is a 2006 model year with barely 16,000 miles on the odo. Gunnar picked the car up in April from a dealer who had obviously "attempted" to run a buffer over it.
After I viewed the car in the sun, we went over various plans of attack and settled on a full multi stage correction. Once the correction was complete, the work was locked in and protected with Optimum's Opti Coat.
The pictures will show the extent of the damage inflicted by the unskilled stealership employees. RIDS (Random-Isolated-Deep-Scratches), rotary buffer swirls, even pigtails were present in some areas from grit trapped under their buffing pad. Speaking of RIDS, they were abundant on every single panel, and the paint was very hard. The defect removal portion of the correction was probably the longest of any car I have worked on, and required almost 30 hours. I was making 5-7 passes per panel to fully remove the RIDS. That is just the first, compounding stage.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.......which begs the question, how many words are 100 pictures worth???? You be the judge.

Amazing!!!! That settles it I'm trying Optimum Opti Coat. I usually go with Meguiars #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0 and/or Swissvax Blau-Weiss wax. How hard is Opti Coat to work with?
