some products play on the word but others like Gtechniq crystal lacquer coatings actually do. It uses a covalent bond to put a micro layer of hard nano particles on the surface of the lacquer to make it very hydrophobic, here is a video of a McLaren 12c i coated a few months ago these are very good coatings the glass sealant is still on my van after 18months.
