Looking for a very very clean 2001-2003 E39 M5 inside and out. Service records and a meticulously maintained is a must.
- Looking to spend $22k-$32k.
- Prefer lower miles under 70k, but more concerned about a mechanically sound car that is dry and clean with records. the lower the miles the higher i'm willing to pay within my budget, again more concerned about a very well maintained M5. (2001-2003)
- Looking for a car with a clean history and a 1-2 owner car is desirable with no paint work. Not to concerned about bumpers being repainted, but trying to find one without any paint work done.
- Color choices, prefer Lemans Blue, Imola red, Alpine white, Carbon black, Oxford green. Prefer black interior, will settle for caramel depending on condition.
- Prefer stock but I'm not concerned about small mods such as suspension, exhaust, etc. but do not want engine tune unless its a DINAN tune.
I am a enthusiast that had a E39 540i throughout my history, currently own an F80 M3, I am looking to add an E39 M5 to my collection.
You might have a LMB with Caramel interior if you are truly willing to go to $30K full disclosure: I bought No Reserve: 2002 BMW M5 | Bring a Trailer and have put a documented $6000+ into it making it right, and have a blackstone oil report too with great numbers. At less than 30K I am not willing to give it up but at $30K I would simply flip it and go to an E46 M3 6MT Vert. Leather is about to be repaired by Fubrenew Leather Repair, Vinyl & Plastic Restoration - Fibrenew Mainline and I have a shark injector that has not been applied yet with an Air Intake Temperature Sensor relocation kit also not installed yet.
PS what was done: This is the list I sent to my Mechanic for my initial service less than 500 miles after I got it:
Pixel repair on LCD
PA State inspection Passed
Obviously report on any concerns with bushings, boots, suspension, leaks, weeping, metal bits, bearings, and anything else.
Feel free to scrape off any of the stickers on the windshield.
Replace Air Filters, Spark Plugs, and Coils (parts in trunk). I have a receipt from Turner Motorsports for all parts below:
Oil& Filter Change with Sample sent to Blackstone Labs (Oil and Filter in Trunk)
Differential and Gear Oil flush and change (Oil in trunk).
Flush Power Steering Fluid (I did not pick up the fluid for this).
Pre-Catalytic O2 Sensors replace (parts in trunk).
Accessory belt and tensioner (parts in trunk). Squealing so check pulleys too while it is off.
Chain Tensioner (part in trunk).
Rear door vapor barrier seals are leaking or leaked in the past, as evidenced by the discoloration on the lower part of the rear door. Pull the panel & inspect the seals
Any service items of opportunity that are easy to do while you are arm deep in the engine bay / lifted, that you think should be addressed up to an additional $500 which would be more expensive if we decided to do them later you are authorized to do without even asking.
Coolant system was recently repaired with new Thermostat and fluid flush, and so was the battery.
Plus much more has been done to restore this car to its glory already, and provide a sound base. email me at hardrivn at yahoo dot com if you are interested. But in all honesty I am not looking to get rid or it unless I were to get at least 30K My plans are to drive it regularly for the next 3-4 years and sell it for 30 ish with a proper service history, essentially planning to break even. I do not plan on driving it in snow and salt and bad weather or really good weather for that matter (I have a 4x4 truck and an E46 ZHP Vert on the side as well as 4 motorcycles for really good weather, and my wife's 2006 Cooper S with 156K miles that we can beat on for taking to the City or other areas where parking is tight or we are worried about something).
Thank you for all the help and suggestions I finally joined the crowd and got one from a fellow board member. 2003 Chiaretto with 58k with all service records.
This is my friends screen name as I have been waiting for 3 weeks to post.
I will post some pictures in this thread once I get cleared to post in the forums.
