Well everyone, my 2001 M5 is officially on consignment and for sale.
$24,888obo
2001 BMW M5
105,xxx miles
3 owner (Carfax has the last owner listed twice)
Titanium Silver
Black Extended Leather in excellent condition, executive package
I purchased this M5 (My second E39) early last year with the intention of keeping it in the collection forever. A few months after that I decided to follow my passion and make a career change so the M5 hasn't been getting much attention and I don't see a reason to hang on.
I bought this car from a retired executive that bought it CPO in Wisconsin. He kept it at his cabin for sometime before bringing it out to his Colorado house where it ultimately sat in his garage and wasn't driven often.
He sold it to me since it was sitting in Colorado where he wasn't permanently living and wasn't driving it enough! That being said, he pampered the car and the condition shows it.
He didn't have service records but he always serviced it with BMW in Wisconsin so I am sure it's history can be tracked. I will tell you that when I purchased it the car had an intermittent check engine light which ultimately ended up being a cam sensor. This car truly is perfect and that's why I am torn. It's almost too clean for the mileage but it drives too good not to drive it!
Previous paintwork that he mentioned, he caught the tail-end of a deer in Wisconsin which led to a hood respray, passenger fender respray, bumper and right front headlight replacement. When this happened he dropped the car at BMW and used whoever they worked with so all OEM parts were used. As far as I can tell the repair was done properly and that was the extend of the damage. The hood has a few stone chips and I think it could use a respray as the paintwork wasn't 100% on the hood but it's passable. Beyond that, the rear bumper has a few scratches (looks like a license plate) but nothing that sticks out horribly. The front right under-shield is cracked a bit, needs to be replaced but again, didn't bother me enough to hunt one down or order a new one.
My recent service:
(within the last 1k miles)
Cam sensor
Spark plugs
valve cover gasket
Oil change
Beyond that, it hasn't needed anything. I am getting an intermittent CEL for a thermostat so I will take care of that before the sale. Keeping that in mind, I do check the car out on a lift frequently and it is solid. Suspension is tight, bushings are all perfect, no cooling issues, nothing!
After talking with the owner and seeing the car I can see that he replaced anything any everything once something came up. I think this is really evident judging by the fresh OEM cats that have been replaced. (8k job at the dealer)
All in all, if you're looking for a well cared for, near perfect, ridiculously good driving E39 M5 then this is your car. I've driven a number of these cars and this is by far the most solid E39 I've come across..... it's why I purchased it.
Never thought I would be selling it but flight training is spendy!
