Spotted: Fake E39 M5

Honestly cant tell you what it is.

From behind, i swore it was an E39 M5. Quad pipes from a distance looked like tubi's because of the tips, but on closer inspection they were tiny, like maybe 1.5" tips. It was a Charcoal grey color. It had ugly E60 M5 side vents, E39 M5 front bumper and some ebay lights/eyelids.

Being i was working at the time, all i know is the vin started with WBA, so it was NOT an M5. The only thing externally that gave it away was the smaller brakes + standard mirrors.

Man it was a sad sight, those E60 side vents look nice on the E60 but on the E39 it looks so out of place..

Oh and Davin spotted me, apparently i wasnt paying attention to the man waving at me in the van

wooot managed 18MPG this tank! 389KM to 60.8L of gas! All city driving minus one trip to Aldergrove which is maybe 40KM away.

Too bad you couldn't take a picture of it ...perhaps next time. It's amazing you are getting 18mpg from your beast. I'm getting only 14.5 consistently going through Van streets between Richmond and the North Shore. Are you filling with octant 94 or something lower?

Oh man, you saw that car AGAIN? I do indeed feel sorry for you, whenever I run into it, it's always within the vicinity of say... 88th, 84th, 80th, 128th, 132nd, King George Hwy. It's changed drivers many times over the years too, first time I saw it I got kind of excited... then I realized it was a fake. There are lots more like it. In my shops plaza is an autobody, outside is usually a black e60... all stock except rims... debadged... rebadged with an ///M5 badge.... I laugh pretty hard when I see it... ok I don't laugh... I usually make comments with this disgusted look on my face...

Yeah next time look around at the weird cargo van's near you... might have a creepy lookin' guy in it.... might just be me actually... Actually, Chris, keep your eyes out, that day I saw you there were quite a few cops cruising up and down 72nd, one was in a ghost car just a car or two in front of you.... so did you race em?

Anyhow, Victor, you don't want to see a photo of this thing... it is fuuuugly!

and to be totally off-topic...so have you all bought your winter tires yet?

I guess you're right. When I owned my MINI I took it out for one winter, after that I only used the Escalade. Guess I already have a winter sports car then eh? Probably a great time for me to get the M5 in the garage so I can add some mods and fix up some little things that bug me such as a center shifter trim that doesn't sit flush with the leather side trim on either side of the transmission tunnel. Whilst thats all apart I'll do the E60 545i SSK plus a UUC DSSR.

I just picked out rims I'd like to get in future but I am thinking when I'm actually serious about doing such a thing I'll get opinions from others and really look hard at what will look great on this car. Then again I really am not the aftermarket look sort of guy, I prefer spending money on performance goodies. However, I feel that darker rims on this car would look absolutely stunning. But almost everyone I know tells me not to bother changing anything so as not to ruin the sleeper image the car possesses. I do find this car isn't as loud as I'd like it to be, not to mention the CLK55 AMG is louder, though, I think the AMG has a sport tuned exhaust and that isn't really what it sounds like. I was thinking I'd like to do an intake, headers, x pipe and exhaust all at the same time rather than one component every few months or whatever. I think I'd like the Eisenmann catback, unsure if I should get the sport or the race, and then there are the two diameter sizes for the tips and I'm unsure which is better there either. I bet with an Xpipe the race models will be a tad too loud especially on this car. Headers I'm sure I want the supersprints. I believe Chris mentioned Aircare will be goners in 2011, so that's good to know for future exhaust stuff

Oh and back to the original topic which was too off-topic to begin with (Read: Winter tires and driving), I realized that if I forego driving in the winter and getting winter tires and rims I'll be saving some money which can be used for some mods. I have to stop answering my own questions eh?

I had planned on driving my beast in the winter. But honestly, ill have to spend about 2,000$ on wheels + snow tires, for that, id rather use it towards mods + maintenence items the car needs and just drive my 99 stranger 4x4 in the winter. Anyways RWD + snow tires is still FTL in the winter combine that with the lack of ground clearence these have, its just a loosing combination.

My maxima had 4 snows + FWD + LSD and it was still handicapped with 4" of ground clearence. Snow tires were such a waste in that car lol.

Anyways though, do any of you guys have some stock wheels laying around? Im looking for 1 to keep as a spare just in case i get a flat. I have no 5x120 wheels at home.

Also do you guys know of any good shops/bmw dealerships? I need to get my Vanos units re-re'd id do it myself but i need the GT1 to put them in assembly position, i called CG motorsports but they spun me the "we need some diag time before we work on it" Screw that, im considering just taking it to the dealer and paying them to do it. Book time says 3hrs/bank.

On a good note, i met another M5 owner. he had a Carbon black 01-02 M5 with 9.5's all around, Hella Euro clear lights, 545 shifter, exhaust, Bilstein PSS9's and he said he had on order some BBS LM Reps, he told me he works at BMW In downtown(Bmw store?). Seemed like a nice guy, just waiting for him to come back and show me his old lights so i can buy them

Hey
I'm the guy with the lights.
They are in my Daughters black 200 that is in your shop. I'm coming buy tomorrow to pick it up. In one of the boxes are adapter harnesses to mate the old style harnesses to the new style lights.
