604: Anyone interested in a mini meet/Cruise?

I would like to put together a small mini meet/get together! There are a few new members locally and i would definately like to talk to some local guys! I havent talked to any other M5 owners, just the occasional drive by while we both stare at each others cars!

Anyways if you guys were interested, id be aiming for a Sunday in Mid-Late August. Whatever suits most of you guys. I work saturdays, so i figure most are free Sunday!

I'm totally game!

However, unsure i'll have my car road worthy by then. Just paid for it lastnight, catching a flight back home from San Fransisco tonight. Car will be shipped to Blaine sometime next week so kind of unsure of the whole schedule, but i'd still show up with the AMG

Hey jt! I live around 116 and 77a, you're fairly close. I actually cannot say that I've seen your car, I do know I saw it when I was searching for my beast months ago. I believe it was owned in Langley prior to you owning it? Heck I don't see many M5 in Surrey at all unless its some E60 at some body shop that they are parting out or trying to salvage and repair As for E39 M5's I've seen a LOT of fakes as of late but nothing authentic.

Right now i'm just trying to figure out which shipping company to go with for my beasts trip from Fresno to Blaine. Unfortunately the quotes are spread out quite a bit as far as pricing is concerned so need to sift through all that and figure out which company is the one to deal with. Need to also talk to my insurance broker for some temporary tags to bring it across the line and obviously inspected for certification. So about a week more I bet.

Ohh okay. Not too far. In terms of Delta, i have a friend who lives on 84th and 118th so i dont normally go much farther into that area. Yep, thats my car! I liked the color combination, and i picked up the car for cheap! The whole reason why, is because it needed aircare and the CEL was on for a bunch of things. Dealer told him he needed a new vanos, i fixed that with 1 exhaust CPS, and then it has the Carbon build up, so it couldnt pass air-care, which i devised a great plan that works and got me thru. Cost nothing, lets just say i could turn around and sell this car and make quite a bit of profit!

This car was an EX-US car too. Honestly, i dont mind, that way i know its never been in a winter! Texas doesnt normally get snow last time i checked! For brining it into Canada, be ready to drop a fair coin at the dealership to have them turn on your day time running lights and change the setting on the DME to read KM instead of Miles on the cluster. You may have to have the Emissions reflash done to your ECU prior to getting the clearence letter from BMW. Good luck man!

We definately have to meet up and go for a cruise/take pics! I personally have seen 3 other E39 M5's, there is a guy at Honda who owns MY00 Alpy White M5, ive seen a Silver MY01+ M5, and a oxford green M5 in the d-town area. Other then that, ive seen 2 knock offs, and lots of 530/540I M-sport's.

Nice dude, you'll have to tell me this magic method of clearing the carbon build up, might come in useful someday.

As for my car, it already has the DRL's so wondering if the stealer here would *****. I discovered recently through a broker that brings cars in from all over that BMW doesn't actually charge the $500 bucks they used to for the recall letter, however upon asking BMW this they said no they still do however they stopped charging the $350 for the admissibility letter. So well guess I won't figure it out until the beast arrives here. So far I'm hoping they just want the $500 bucks and thats it. I'll actually ask em over the phone if I could get the letter, who knows maybe that'll work and the car will never need to be taken into a stealer.

Thats even better! Id just call and ask what the cost would be for a "long time bmw owner" Maybe they will give you a better price, if you tell them you will be coming there for regular maintenence.

Its really nothing special, but my problem is, when you cold start, the DME's readiness monitors test EVAP/Secondary air flow. Well in my situation because the car had previously failed aircare, you can only have 1 not ready status. Well, i could get all of them to set, except evap/secondary air flow because of the whole cold start issue tripping the P0411 Secondary air flow - Incorrect flow code.

Basically what i did, is trick the DME into thinking the Secondary air flow system was operating correctly. If you are technically savy, the DME monitors secondary air flow efficiency by monitoring both pre/post o2 sensors. The secondary air flow system, injects air into the exhaust stream to cause an excessively lean mixture to heat up the catalyst faster. Basically what i did was cause an excessively lean mixture during the 30-90 seconds the secondary air pump was running, therefore tricking the DME into thinking the SAI system was working as it should! Worked like a charm, did that twice, and went through aircare and passed!

Awesome! you're like an m5 emissions wizard

I'll call brian jessel tomorrow and ask what can be done in regards to lowering the cost, last time I spoke with their service manager I mentioned the bit about how BMW apparently doesn't charge the $500 dollars any longer and he actually heard me out and told me to make sure those findings with BMW Corporate. So let's see what happens, maybe they aren't being all that pushy now that its not really that much of a deal to get a vehicle across the line. Only reason I went looking there is because there were no 2003 M5's around to even look at anywhere in Canada.

Anyways, I think we've gone super off topic with this thread.

Where and When shall the meet be? Have you sent PM's to the usual 604-er's? Manminder and Victorm5 are the only others I know of besides you.

Are we thinking daytime? I actually work sundays starting around 5pm til 12am.

I know last time there was a meet, Manminder organized and they held it in Richmond as it was central to practically everyone.

I figure maybe it should be a short lunch meet then follow it up with a cruise to someplace neat. I haven't been doing the whole cruise bit since my Corvette days and even then they all liked to just go hang out at a pub/bar.

Yeah.

Definately during the day time. Id aim for around noon on Sunday. Richmond is fine with me, I was thinking maybe coquitlam area too? We could grab a bite to eat then cruise up to Bunzten lake or somewhere nice up there. Basically just find a nice place to snap a few photo's then go our own ways.

Its up to you guys, i dont really mind. If the bar is the thing, lets cruise up to a nice bar have a couple drinks after we go for a cruise or whatever its all good!

Ill try locate some of the local guys and fire off some PM's. Maybe aim for August 23rd or the 30th? Both Sundays!
