Thinking about an X5M

Thinking about selling my X5 x-drive 4.8l and getting an X5M.

Just curious what I should look out for?
What is the best year to purchase?
Any known engine problems I should be aware of?

When I bought my 2010 M5, I had no clue about rod bearing but I wasn't a member of this board yet either so now I have concerns when it comes to M cars. Thanks in advance!

Own a e60 M5 also and currently have the 4.8l xdrive X5 so gas mileage is the very least of my concerns lol.

did you decide?

i went from a e60 m5 --- to havign twins so leased the 750xi sport (old man car) and got rid of that for the x5m (2011)
I absolutely love it and would 100% recommend

only thing I miss about the m5 is Burnout every so often!

excellent SUV's and I have Velos tune so 640 hp & 620 lb ft torque! monster and super fast

This year I dumped about 5k in maintenance and repairs for my current x5. I will keep it until I can find a used 15 x5m.

i sold our 2008 4.8i sport -- as fyi they have known engine issues once mileage gets higher 80k + so i would recommend getting out of that car sooner vs later
my 2008 x5 sport was perfect to me -- no issues what so ever... i sold it only to go to BMW a few weeks ago and my rep told me that the car I sold is starting to smoke (on new owner) i had zero issues.. if he's starting to see smoke, it'll obly get worse

the x5m is a different engine and to my knowledge doesn't have this issue

but look into what i said about 4.8 bc you dn't want to get stuck with a car that smokes... no fix under $7,000 !!

good luck

I may just pull the trigger on a 16 once I get my x5 back from the dealer. Couple of months ago, it left me stranded on the road due to a battery. Replaced the battery, today it did the same thing! This time with my entire family in the car. I'm done repairing stuff on this car.
