Designing the Koenigsegg

This could be interesting for some.

In February 2005, the Koenigsegg CCR set the world speed record for production sports cars by reaching 387.87 kilometres per hour on an oval test track in Italy.

The designer behind the car, David Crafoord, has worked on the project since 1993. “The goal was to create a super sports car with a northern European personality. I knew that the development process would take a long time, so I had to create a car shape that wasn’t too characteristic of any period. There is an aerodynamic idea behind the dolphin-inspired shape, but we also had to achieve downforce both at the front and back to counteract lift and achieve good roadholding. This car is made to be able to be driven like a normal car on normal roads.”

The first prototype Koenigsegg CC was displayed at the film festival in Cannes in 1997. Four years later the silver-coloured prototype for the Koenigsegg CC8S was launched at the Paris Motor Show to wide acclaim.

Another year later, in 2002, the first car was delivered, with a custom-built 655 bhp V8 engine.

Koenigsegg’s target audience is defined as the world elite of car collectors, and virtually everything on the car is intended to be extreme and custom developed, adapted to the customer’s every whim. Koenigsegg Automotive makes the cars in a converted hangar in Ängelholm in southern Sweden.
