Any M3 software upgrades yet?

Hey guys,
I'm new to this board, just wondering if anyone has any software
upgrades for the E46 M3 yet. If you hit 2nd gear hard and the rear wheels slip, traction control engages slightly even if its turned off @ the dash. I'd think reprogramming th ecm might eliminate this. Anyone else have this problem? Drives me nuts when I'm on it hard. Thanks!
Steve

I did some drag racing with my M3 last night and had some pretty severe wheel spin when hitting 2nd gear. Are you sure the DSC engages?

It were no problems at all drifting around corners with the car in 2nd gear, if the DSC was still working this would be impossible.

BTW, welcome!

Cheers,
/Johan

Thanks for the welcome Johan. The DSC was disengaged, but the throttle repsonse backs off when the slipping starts, and the DSC light on the dash still briefly blinks. Weird. I know on other cars with this feature, when you manually override it, its OFF. I just thought some reprogramming (if available) would cure this.

Seems strange, was the DSC lamp light up?

With DSC off I can spin my wheels in 1st and 2nd gear, wouldn't that be impossible if the DSC kicked in?

I would like to have the DSC less intrusive when it's engaged though.

Cheers,
/Johan

It seems like with it disengaged, you should be able to roast the tires if you wanted to. But the DSC still seems to be there even when I don't want it. I agree that it should be a little less intrusive. I've taken some fairly hard corners with it on, and it hasn't engaged.

Either there is something wrong with your car or US cars are different somwhow.

A couple of hundred persons can witness that I can toast the wheels on my M3 with DSC off. Gustav is one of them.

Cheers,
/Johan

Wait are guys saying that

If you turn off the traction control here in the States by pressing the DSC button, the traction control will stillnot be disengauged? I have turned off my DSC by the button and have spun my wheels untill I let off the trottle.

Cosmos,

That's what I thought.
Than there has to be some other explanation.

Cheers,

I haven't really tried to roast 'em off the line w/ the DSC off, but when I'm racing with the DSC off, as soon as I hit second, the throttle response slightly dies off. Its not AS bad when the DSC is on, but still noticeable. I may have to take it in. Maybe the euro-spec cars are slightly different....I'm not sure, but this car kicks *** nontheless! I had a '98 740 before this which was a great car,
but this M3 is on a whole different level. What kind of mileage does everyone have on thier cars?

I can't do the km/miles conversion, but I'm at 3600 miles. It was tough getting past the break in period of only revving to 5500rpm and keeping it below 105 mph! I love winding the thing all the way up to 8000rpm...what a blast to drive. I recently took a trip
about 385 miles, and did it in 4 hours. The car is as solid @ 120-130 mph as it is @ 65 mph!

"The car is as solid @ 120-130 mph as it is @ 65 mph!"

It's also just as solid at 155mph ...
