help!! gps missing from widescreen

hi guys im new to this board and ive just found out that there used to be another m5_madman on here and here and apparantly he was booted off for various reasons, please dont confuse me with this other person- honestly this is my first time on this board and i dont wanna be misjudged by someone elses actions!! anyway i hope someone can help me before i go the very expensive dealer!!! i own a beautiful 2001 m5 e39,i had a flat battery, took it off and charged it, put it back on and when i turned the ignition key i had no screen on at all, i panicked and switched the ignition off and back on, the screen came on but in some weird text mode, when i drove it i realised the gps was missing from the menu,i cant get it back!! since reading a lot on here i now realise i shouldnt have removed battery until the red gps light in the boot gone out. The gps in the boot still lights up and u can here the disc doing its thing but nothing on the screen and still very weird text mode! dsp,tv etc still works. Can anyone help. I would be extremely grateful
Rob

Highly suggest you:

a) visit www.x5world.com and look in the Navigation thread - best place to find your answer, and
b) post this in the E39 M5 forum, NOT in the For Sale forum

I know I posted this in the wrong thread. Dont know how to change it to correct thread??? anyway I just thought I'd share with you guys that I've just fixed my problem. I changed the mk3 nav unit for one I bought on fleabay for £100 from navman, plugged it in and it all works again!! everything lit up as it should drove around for 5 mins and nav found me and works perfect, I got a good deal coz he also sent me an 07 disc with splitscreen. Perfect! So in future if I ever have to disconnect battery I will make sure I let the nav power down as I'm sure thats what blew it!! doh

Good stuff - glad to hear it's working now.

Maybe we'll see you at a meet some time soon.

hopefully I will keep it long enough to get to a meet! I may be forced to sell her, which I am striving very hard not to do. Trouble is Ive got a merc amg which should ave sold by now but no one is interested so if it dont sell soon I may be forced to sell the m5 and keep the bleedin merc which will be a hard thing to do, ever since ive had the m5 ive detested the merc! I keep hangin onand dropping the price- hers hoping!!

Try advertising the Merc in the for sale section, both cars look good.

Is your M5 Avus or Le Mans?? just asking as looks like le Mans and i know your sig says Avus

Good luck old bean

hi steve and thanks for the idea but i thought advertising the merc on the m5 board would be taking the pee slightly!! I get the feeling that it may have been up for sale for too long and everyone has seen it and thought there must be something wrong with it, I've dropped the price to £12995 and still no takers. Nice car but not a patch on the m.
I origanally thought the m was avus but you are right it is le mans blue, I should have read the log book sooner!( I checked all the important stuff like chassis numbers etc)you know your colours dont u!
