Ruf

Can anyone tell me what is RUF ? Is it a manufacturer like ALPINA is or "just" a tuner ?

There is one of those for sale in Spain...

I think that they might be compared to alpina rather than to other tuners , because they put more exclusive equipment on the porshces , they're an independent car manufacturer by the german law and they sell complete cars rather than make conversions , i remember i've seen last summer in austria in a tunnel the "yellow bird" (an old ruf , you'll probably know which one i'm talking about) was giving f355 a run in tunnel , and i really have to admit that i have never heard any sweater car sounds , a ruf reving it up to the max and make a little backfire when shifting , and then this screaming V8 ferrari , unluckily i was driving the chrysler town&country full of women and children so i couldn't even try to follow'em for a while just to hear some more...
I love all rufs , but the old ones rock , jusr like all old porsches , ferraris , lambos and astons , call me a dinosaur but these cars ... i don't have words to describe ... my friend finished restoring a 27 year old aston martin with all orginal parts , it costed a lot , both money and work , but was worth every penny , damn this car drives superb , and sounds magically ... hehe

Re: Ruf

Hello Jetboy,

Ruf is "one of the most respected international sportscar manufacturers and suppliers of specialised components." As far as I am aware they are a manufacturer in their own right, just like Alpina.

Have a look at their company web site:

http://www.ruf-automobiles.com

Their 'base' is Porsche, but real Ruf aficionados do not call their cars 'Porsche' in the same way that Alpina owners do not call their cars BMWs.

I would very much like a Ruf (I could never afford one new, unless I win the lottery, but I always have my eyes open for a second hand one).

The Ruf CTR 'Yellow Bird' holds the fastest car lap time of the Nürburgring, well it did, I don't know if it has been beaten yet. See it at:

http://www.ruf-automobile.de/html/911_ctr_engl.html

Ruf also carry out retro upgrades of 'standard' Porsches... so you do need to know what you are looking at ie whether it is a Ruf from new or an after market modified one.

Which Ruf model are you looking at in Spain?

Regards & good luck,

Neil

Hi

I've never been much of a Porsche fan, besides the 928s, 968 and 944 ( might have something to do with the time I spun a buddy's 930.....) but I was truly amazed buy the a RUF. I can't remember all the details, but the guy who had it spent an additional $80-90K on mods on a brand new 933 TT. Variable boost pressure, Ruf matching yellow interior, 19 inch wheels, psycho brakes+++ The owner took me for a ride on a backroad we both knew very well, and scared me shitless! The acceleration was mind boggeling, but the brakes were unreal!!! I didn't drive it, but I didn't have to... Whow, ever since I've been a big RUF fan, they are what ALPINA is to BMW as Neil mentioned.

Regards
Carl

Hello Neil,

My father is looking for a RUF, not me. The car is 993 bi-turbo Ruf (993 BTR ) or something like that. I don´t even know the specs of this car as I have never been interested in Porsches. I didn´t even know what the hell was a Porsche Ruf !! The car belongs to one of the biggest RR collector in the world...he says it is 496 hp but this sounds very optimistic to me. We´ll see...

Hi,

I know the owner and the car. Is it red ?? It is a killer, one of the fastest cars I've ever seen...and I think it is + 500 hp. If I´m not wrong it is the only RUF in Spain.

How much is he asking ?

Best regards and good luck.

It is veeery expensive, it is in top condition and has very low mileage but for that prize you can buy a new M5 and almost a new M3. Of course you get for you pay for. You know, I would never say: "It is just a car". ( see the thread in the E39 section).

Best regards.

P.S: Wow, how do you know the car ? Please check your e-mail.
