Well, I made it to work today (ice storm)

A major ice storm has hit my area. Of course, my company is still open so I decided to brave the elements in the M5 - could of/should of taken my wife's SUV. I've run it in snow before with great results. But this was a mix of snow, slush and ice. The trickiest part was the on-ramp to I-95. Once there, I was cruising at a steady 35mph in 4th. The road was a sheet of ice covered by an inch or two of snow and/or slush. Not fun, but overall, this car made it through with no problems. If you have snow tires on and take your time, this car is as capable as any on the road of getting you to your desitnation. So, here I am at work now, with nothing else to do but write this story

ps. Style 66 wheels with Dunlop Winter Sport M3's

Nice! I haven't driven in extreme conditions like those, but my M5 is not afraid of a little snow, and it manages very good. Have the same tires, on ACS monoblock wheels.

Good to know you made it safe. My workplace is also open and is 15mi. away but decided to stay and work from home since you'll never know how other drivers on the road will react with these type of conditions, better safe than sorry I guess... But for the record, I won't drive the M5 in these conditions...

But I did drive out with the X5 to drop off my wife at her workplace which is just 5miles away from home. Really tough conditions here west of Philly even the X5 with snow tires had some tough times... Glad to go out since I got my Starbucks fix...

Be safe!

boostmiser,

Good for you. That white stuff and ice makes for tricky driving. Congrats to you and the other board members braving the drive during this weather condition.

It's only half the battle. Still have to get home tonight. Might stop by the gym if it's open. It's supposed to snow later. The forecast keeps changing though.

The nice thing about ice and snow is that it makes practicing your drifting skills veerrry easy.

Boostmiser,
I live in DE too and just got my M5 2 days ago. I nervousely drove it home last night in the snow/ice and I have to say it did pretty well. I was worried this morning but luckly my co. decided to close. Hopefully it will clear up more for your ride home. Good to see another DE person...

Last season I drove through a major snow storm in my M5 with Blizzak winter threads. No problems! The well balanced E39 chasis is great in the snow (with proper tires).

Made it home! Car was great again. Snow tires were worth every dime. Funny, I had about 6 people surprised that I was at work. Then they asked who dropped me off. Hah.
