Biting the bullet... Magnaflow mufflers

Ok, so after ready about a million posts on all the different exhausts I'm exhausted. I'm really just looking for a nice sound. I really wanted to hear what it would sound like if I just replace the cans only and leave everything else stock, including resonators. Some people say it's great, some say it will drone like crazy but I couldn't find any clips anywhere with this exact setup. So I'm going to take one for the team and do an experiment. I ordered 2 14816 magnaflow mufflers and I am going to have then welded on. I'll take pics and sound clips and post the results. Depending on who you believe, it may suck or may be the best sound ever....we will see.

It's gonna be loud, and not sure how much the stock resonnator will kill the drone...but they will drone too

They should be a good fit and the tips are really nice, good choice. Keep us updated.

I guess the hangers will have to be custom bent and welded on?

E55AMG2 - I've read your posts on Magnaflows before and unless I'm wrong you have never heard them on an M5 with resonators?

Atlanta - You are right they should look great but still have no idea how they will sound. But that's why it's an experiment

Ohh the suspense is building ..

One, I've never quite grasped the concept of "drone". I can sort of imagine what one might mean by this, but can anyone out there really explain what is to be expected or what "drone" is?

I had dual Magnaflow mufflers for my 2002 Audi A4 Avant 1.8t and thought they were awesome. I also had the Magnaflow resonators.

They were really quiet til i put the big turbo on, even though, wasnt too bad nor did it drone. But its a turbo car, so they stay quiet.

However, like someone said, you never know, different car

Most people say it drone when it resonates in the cabin. When something is at the right frequency to start things vibrating. That's why you hear people only have it a certain RPM's. Bad drone can really suck because it seems to get inside your head.
That being said this will be my second M car with magnaflows. I had a M coupe with an S54 and it sounded great with the magnaflows, but that was a 6 and I don't imagine this will sound anything like it. Hopefully it will still sound good.... but that is the BIG question.

BTW cost so far $260 shipped to my door.
