Ordered. Now 2 more months of waiting

Should be an October build, Nov delivery.

E46 M3
Alpine White
Adjustable Lumbar and Width option
Chrome Shadowline option
6 Disk CD Changer option
Anthracite Alcantara seat trim

Almost everything else is standard, glass sunroof, heated seats, headlight washers, alarm, etc. I chose to skip nav, pdc, rain sensor, cell phone pre-wire. Was offered to delete sunroof for $400 but decided I'd leave it for resale as I may try to upgrade to an SMG II car later.

*twiddles thumbs* Hurry up! Hurry up!

Not in Canada it wasn't. I could not get any answer from BMW Canada on that, except that "it would not be early 2002 model year"...

I heard through two dealers that SMG won't be available until the November builds.

Thanks!

How's the engine doing now? Do you have to re-follow any break-in procedures? What parts did they replace besides the cam?

Engine's much better now thanks. I think the problem must have affected the engine quite soon in its life since I've notice two definite differences since I got it back:

1. The DSC comes on at roundabouts where it never used to (implying slightly more torque)

2. The engine used to hesitate badly when cold (for the first few seconds). This symptom has now disappeared.

I doubt that 1) is due to the new 10W60 oil ... if anything it should reduce power slightly. I assume it's due to the fact that, with a worn camshaft, the valve opening will have been slightly off.

2) might be down to the new oil but again, might be due to the valve opening now being exactly correct.

The parts they replaced were the exhaust camshaft, follower and shims.

Ian.

Well, with heavier oil you should get better compression... so added torque resulting from that (or the valve) would not surprise me. But the problems witht he cold starts definately sound more valve related. Do you know if they did an dme software upgrade while it was in?
