Problems with stretching of TV image (Australian market)?

In Australia, the M5s come with an analog and digital tuner.

However, when viewing, both signals are "stretched" to fill the display. This is stupid because the 4:3 analog should be just left as is with black bars on the side.

What's even more stupid is that the digital 16:9 signal is stretched so that it is letterboxed with black bars above and below the image.

Is this what's happening in other markets? I couldn't find any setting to tell the TV to not letterbox or stretch.

Anyone help out there?

Not necessarily only for Australian Market

Is this a problem for European and US M5s as well?

Not a problem for US cars - we don't get the TV modules here since we cannot be trusted not to drive into the car in front of us and then sue BMW...

it doesn't work when you're moving... My X5 would continue to show the picture when you're crawling along in traffic, but the M5 doesn't show the picture unless the handbrake is on.

can we ask a dealer sometime? They probably won't know - they don't know much. I agree it is annoying and stupid.

Mine's the same - all stretched out. The lack of picture when stationary is also a bummer and a backward step. My old 540i was better - you could watch the news at the lights on the way home.
