Driving in heavy rain - not fun - tire suggestions?

Up here in the northeast of the US, we had a lot of rain on Thanksgiving.
I will tell you, although great on dry pavement, I'm not happy with the traction of these stock tires in the rain.
I was hydroplaning even at low speeds of 60-65 MPH.

What are some suggestions for a better tire in our size for this vehicle.

I have Goodyear Eagle F1's on my 2000 540i and they are great in dry and wet weather.

Thanx for any and all comments.

How many miles do you have on your tires, is tread ok or down.
I thought the Sport Contis that came with the car were excellent in the rain for the first 6k miles...

I have just had Pirelli 255/40 Winter SottoZero's fitted on all 4 OEM 19 wheels. Time will tell what they are like but they have plenty of 'bite' on them that's for sure.

bboomer, Bret, has about 1,600 miles on them...their new...I suggest trying to adjust tire pressures, I did, say 36 or 37 lbs....then do a tire recalibration....

It was also pretty cold here (40's) in addition to the rain. Those winter treads will need to go on in the next week or two.

I have 2300 miles on them.

I'm thinking of changing to one of these three:
-Goodyear Eagle F1's GS-D3
-Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position
-Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

They all have great survey results from Tire Rack.

However I don't think these come in our sizes yet.

And I'm not thinking of winter tires since I will not drive the Beast in snow.

Greg,
What is a tire recalibration?
I know what re balancing and alignment is, but a recalibration?

I have Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 on my Lexus GS430, and regularly do 80mph on the beltway even when wet. No hydroplaning, although I need to note that thet are 235s. I believe you have 255/285s, which will be more prone to hydroplane because of the lesser force (weight) per square inch.

Guys.

I DID NOT say I wasn't driving in the winter - just not in the snow.

So I see no need for winter tires.
