Favorite things about M5

What are your favorite things about the M5? As a long-term Porsche guy, I'm just loving this M5. I passed up the 997 Turbo for this and my 997S just sat in the garage while I learned the SMG and I Drive.

I like the luxury, comfort, performance, keyless go, sat. radio, power, SMG, etc. So much power in a big sedan. Great seats too.

Favorite thing is p500S5.

You didn't leave much unmentioned.

I love MDM: freedom to have fun, but a safety net when you need it

how exactly MDM works? I mean can you really slide the car with it?

OH YEAH! You can't drift the car all over everywhere, but you sure can get the rear end to slide out in a corner.

It will eventually cut in and start to modulate the power to the rear wheels, but not until you have had a good time. This is a fun "nanny." Go try it out in the rain and a empty parking lot!

One of my favorite features has to be the HUD. I've become so addicted to it that I have a problem checking my gages when I'm in any of my other cars.

Favorites: V10 power, V10 intake growl, V10 exhaust sound.
Close behind: Gorgeous interior, 7-speed SMG with great ratios, lots of cool technology (love the comfort access keyless features!).

What I'm not in love with: iDrive. Still getting used to it.

Best was DSC-off S6 engine warmed up and pump the throttle and let her loose when the rpm gets up to 3500 rpm, break traction in both tires and lay a nice strip of rubber as the engine stays close to redline until hookup then ease off as you click in 2nd gear then rejoin traffic as if nothing had happened...

Also the exhaust sound when it got hot after a very high-speed run on the highway.

Loved the seats too, excellent.

All of the above posts pretty much sum it up.
The only thing that I am having trouble with is the Comfort Seats because it is not that "comfort" at all. I have been trying to get the correct settings still.

What are you reasons for passing up the Turbo? I went to have a close look at the 997 turbo yesterday at the local Porsche garage and MY WORD it is a thing of beauty. I've yet to be a passenger in one / drive one but the magazine test results I've seen have been astonishing.

My old man has had his M5 for over a year now - and he is picking up his 997 4S this afternoon. I'm keen to see how the M5 compares to a purpose-built sportscar like the 911 from a "fun" perspective.

Oh yeah- forgot about the HUD. Love that too, specially since the steering wheel seems too high for me so I lower it almost all the way and can still see everything I need to on the HUD (especially the gas gauge!).

As for why I passed up the 997 Turbo- I'm sure I would love that car too but within my car budget, I could have the M5 and 997S. If I got the Turbo, the one I spec'd out was $140k so I would have to part with the M5.

The best part about the M5 over my turbo is being able to scare 3 passengers to death instead of one
