SES/Service Engine Soon Faults - Interpretation needed

I recently received an SES light and obtained the following codes through the PEAKE R5/FCX-II on a '00 M5

-Exhaust gas temp sensor
-secondary air system flow too low
-pre cat O2 sensor cyl 1-4
-fuel control cyl 1-4
-misfire w/ empty fuel tank

Can anyone pinpoint the issue? Thanks

That's quite a few faults. I would reset them and see if they all get triggered again. You may be in need of an O2 sensor.

Maybe I can shed some light too

First of all the EGT sensor needs to be disabled and removed from the system. This was done as a campain through BMW a long time ago. It requires them to hook her up to the GT1 disable the device and then remove it completely. This sensor was not used on thr later E39 M5 or later Z8's because it proved to be a problem child.

The next two could interrelated as such I would have the EGT removed first, all faults cleared and then see how happy she remians. If the last three (I should say 2) because she should not be runing low on fuel then I suspect an O2 as such the fuel control issue was presented because the system was attemting to trim more than designed.

Regardless; have the EGT sensor disabled and then removed. You CAN NOT simply remove it; it must be disabled prior to removing or you will forever have a fault code.... clear the codes and see what follows

All the best

Shadowman your extreme knowledge is appreciated.

Apparently a software update is needed to disable the EGT prior to the sensor

removal. I have Powerchip how does one go about this?

You are welcome

As for whether the software has to be updated during this process is of significance however worst case the team at Power Chip can reflash it for you. I am certain that if you call them in advance and share the situation a smooth process can be defined.

Regardless of the hassle it is worth the results.

Takes care

I cleared the SES faults and it hasn't reappeared after one day's driving. I suspect the faults accumulated with time....since I replaced the o2 sensors previously...

Had the precat and post cat sensor faults, same side, dealer cleared the faults and replaced the MAF on that side under warranty. I tried to get the other MAF done too but to no avail. He feels that most of the 02 sensor issues usually relate to tired or dirty MAFs.
