Here it is - $150.00 AEM Custom Air Intake CAI - (PICS)

Okay, here it is... Finally completed the AEM Custom Air Intake that was originally installed by M5BOSS...

M5BOSS Post

Here's what you'll need:
(2) AEM Dryflow air filters

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...=115&y=11&x=25

(2) Aluminum intake mandrel bent pipes
http://www.sfxperformance.com/catalo...ctCode=VIB2880

(1) Roll of Aluminum foil High-temp tape

Here is a quick installation summary:

1. Remove both top portions of OEM airbox

2. Remove both air intake guide that are snapped on

3. Cut the bent 15" pipe by 6.5" at both ends.

4. Apply Aluminum foil tape on one end of the bent pipe and test fit along the way... Continue until it fits tightly enough...

5. Connect the AEM filter to the end of the pipe.

6. Verify that the airbox lid closes well without any extra force...

As per M5BOSS' dyno this MOD will give you a gain of 12HP...
Dyno Results

Nice writeup, been meaning to do this since I saw the original post

Did you notice any more "growl" from the motor with a better flowing cone filter over the stock panel filters?

Very nicely done. I was looking through your dyno's and noticed how much your air/fuel fluctuated. Mine went to the line (12.5 or so I think) and stayed flat untill dropping down to the rich side at the top of the rpm range. What does that mean?....?.., I haven't the slightest! Do you?

Not my Dyno run... It's M5BOSS' Dyno run after he installed the AEM Dryflow filters...

My M5 does feel a bit more responsive now...

Is that 12hp on MTBE fuel or Ethanol?
I'm thinking this might offset the loss of power Ethanol has robbed us of.

Thanks! Haven't noticed any growl when revving with the hood down and sitting on the driver's seat... Will try to observe this weekend...

I did the same except...

instead of the aluminum tape, I used some of that permatex sealant putty to seal the inside and outside of the mandrel bent tube as it goes through the top of the filter box. You kneed the epoxy putty together with you fingers for a minute, it has two different chemicals in a neat little putty material that you can then roll between your hands forming a long bead of putty that you then wrap around the pipe where it goes through the filter box. Just seal both sides up. It hardens in 10 min or so. I tried the tape method but I could see light come through as I held it up to a shop light. That means dirty air could come through too.

I cut the mandrel pipes just as they come out of their bend on both sides, so you are cutting off most of the pipe on both ends.

You can pick this stuff up at any auto parts store but this is one brand of the material, the second or 3rd item listed is the stuff... http://www.caswellplating.com/permat...pairprods.html

Nice pics of the job here TQ2K!

Nice write up and photos, much better then what was never done on the other thread.
I hope you pulled the burrs off the pipe in pictures 13/14. That could break off and get sucked right into the engine and cause some major grooves cut into the bore.
Next rework the tubing to the factory air box.

Yeah, I cleaned it off... I like using the aluminum foil tape as following this process makes the whole system totally reversible. Can bring it back to stock form anytime if I ever needed to...
