Anyone replaced clutch yet?

Hi all,

I feel my clutch is starting to go - fair enough, I give it a hard time!

Use to be able to floor it in S6 and it would spin the wheels, but it doesn't anymore!

Wondering if anyone has had one replaced, and also - if there are any aftermarket ones available as yet for the E60 M5?

Ta!

M5's clutch (it's actually a double plate one) is coming from Sachs. So I guess, there has to be something possibly stronger than the OEM's...

I've changed a clutch set, but it was due to the clutch sensor fault (diagnosed prior to the complete SMG unit exchange)...

HAVE I EVER!

Probably around 25-30 times I guess in 7000 or so miles. But it isn't just launch control of course that give the clutch a hard time - it is also flooring it in 1st, accelerating hard in 1st gear from a stop etc.

I think that it does have a bit of life left in it - just trying to prepare for the inevitable! which may be replaced under warranty anyway, but I can't see it lasting to 20,000miles!

Theob - do you know what diameter the clutch plate is?

Yup I have replaced my clutch, around 6600 miles, took over three weeks to get the machine back. I put another 400 miles( around 1 month period) on it and now I am taking it back in for transmission failure (not sure if it is software or the transmission itself, waiting for them to call me back). I am getting really frustrated. . By the way they told me they will only replace 1 clutch, saying I used LC to much, I told in a polite way, there idiots and don’t know anything about there own product. I had to explain how US models don’t have LC and then he stood there with no response on how my clutch was out. I have come too two conclusions on possible failure of the clutch:

1. Downshifting alot -- (high rpms 6-7000)
2. Software and possible transmission problems could have lead to failure of clutch.

This is the third time I have taken my car in for transmission issues, and I am coming to a point of ....So how would you guys handle this, what can be done to make sure another fialure doesn't happen in 4-6 weeks again? I really dont want to trade my car or sell it becuase man do I love this car, but it is kinda of frustrating.

4rotor : The clutch was completely warn out(bald).

I just got off the phone no more then 5 mins after my thread reply when I talked to my service advisor and she told me it was a steering angle sensor problem (which was the reason for the all the warning/failues to pop up). They told me I could come and pick up my car and continue driving it while the part is in order, 2-4 weeks untill the part arrives. I just read others have had the same problem with the sensor and others are on back order to. Would you guys drive it the car or would you leave it in the shop for another month? Ashok's I feel your problem, and anyone else out there with these kind of issues.

I noticed it was slipping when in 1st gear from a stop. Whenever I would go foward I would feel the gear slip, then it would start pulling. And no error messages were involved, atleast not untill I took it to the shop becuase they took apart my transmission and took the clutch out: Software update, new clutch but the same transmission. If it is slipping in first gear I would take it in and tell them to look at your clutch. Also had no problems going through the other gears only from a stop in 1st.
