1st official quart of oil today .....

last nite i pulled in the garage after a long nite of driving / hanging out as i shut the beast down i got a low oil warning.

as soon as i woke up this morning i mounted the beast shot up to the dealer no questions asked they filled me up and i was on my way (quite a pleasant experience).

the car is 1mo and 20 days old and i have about 3200 miles..i really could'nt be more pleased unless i had a dinan supercharger !!

Do you know what the reading was before you got the warning?
I'm now at 5400mi and still at .8l. Never had to add. Go figure.

My reading also at .8L. Never had to add a quart since I picked up the car in December. But then again, I baby my car. Never been driven hard. Never redlined, even after seven months of ownership. What a waste of an incredible sports sedan! Maybe I should have bought a 545i instead.

I've driven mine hard at times but still take care of it. How can you not push it a few times just to experiment or experience?!

Sounds about like mine in terms of oil usage; I added one liter at around 5000 miles, and a second (well almost a second) at about 9000 miles.

The first time I added, I put in a full liter (like you're supposed to do) when it called out low oil when I shut it down. But after I initiated a recheck, it showed 1.3L which is more overfilled than I wanted.

So this time, I ignored that first warning - because I found when I started it back up the next time I didn't get any warning - in fact it actually showed .2L on the readout. So I waited - and waited - and waited. It dropped to .1L, occasionally showing low oil on shut down but more often than not it didn't - and it still kept showing .1L on the readout.

One day I had a trip planned and as I was taking passangers I didn't want to have to stop and put oil in the car (hard to explain to people who don't understand the Beast why you have to add oil to such a car) but I still felt I would over fill if I added a full liter. So - I added just slightly over 750ML (there's a 250ML mark on the oil bottle and I put in just enough to be below that mark) and initiated a recalibration. It came up with .9L - exactly what I hoped was going to happen.

Overall I'm pretty pleased. I think that 3500-4000 miles per liter of oil is good (compared to other experiences) and I have found the often cursed electronic dipstick to be pretty accurate with only a few "quirks".

I put my first quart in yesterday. 1100 miles and 4 weeks of ownership.
Wife got the warning at midnight the night before in the middle of nowhere.
After I put the quart in, it read .8!
Mine was dry. I thought I saw a dust cloud when I opened the cap.

I took me car for the 1200 service... they changed the oil, then at about 1800-2000miles I had to add a quart.

I took a reading and it told me 1.2, and now at 2,800 miles its at 1liter still, maybe .9 now... not sure havn't checked. I've been too busy researching the gearing and what will give me the best MPG for Gear, RPM, and speed

There's no such thing as best MPG!!!! But on a more serious note you'll discover that if you just keep it under 70mph it will be a bit better than what the EPA is listing.
BUT WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND IS GOING TO DRIVE LIKE THAT???

It seems 55mph in 7th gear will give me 22-24mpg
70mph in 7th gear gives me idk 18 or 19 I think....

I can't remember I coulda swore I was getting better gas mileage at 70mph, in 6th gear than 7th... I'll do some more research tomorow, I have 2 hour long drive on I-75 tomorrow.
