Recommendations for Bluetooth-enabled phones?

Ok everyone... it's time for ANOTHER bluetooth post.

So here I am... I've been using a Sony Ericsson W600i (cingular) and from the bluetooth standpoint (pairing with my M5, tranferring phonebook, etc.), it's worked very well.

But like most of us, I've gotten tired of the phone and wanted something new. Without much thought, I saw the Nokia N80 and really liked it. So I bought an unlocked version... but guess what, once I pair the phone with the M5... nothing! I even try to force the connection from the blue tooth and it just won't connect. Seems it's just one of those incompatabilities I'm not going to overcome, so I need to get a new phone to replace the new phone, that will work with the M5.

So does anyone have a recommendation on a new model phone that will actually work with the M5? And yes... I'd like a decent amount of features... but I'm just at a loss for what's out there that will work. The phones listed on the BMWUSA site are completely rediculous... old and antiquated...

Any recommendations??? Oh... I'm open to unlocked phones too... instead of limiting it certain carriers.

Wow. I too was considering the N80 and the Sony Ericsson K790a. I guess I am going to wait a week or two for the K790a to be released. I currently have a Sony Ericsson K750i and it works great with the bluetooth integration with the M5 so I think the K790a will work great too, probably better.

As far as the phones go, the N80 has more to it, such as the wifi but i doubt I will be using that feature much, since I do most of my web work on my notebook computer. The K790a has EDGE so you can still use that for email and such. The K790a also has a better camera than the N80 from what I have seen, also it has autofocus and a flash. So my recomendation would be the Sony Ericsson K790a to replace your new N80.

i've never had a single Nokia phone that worked with my M5 BT. On the other hand, all Sony Ericsson phones work flawlessly.

again, im blaiming this on the shitty BMW Bluetooth they installed in the car.

people with ericssons have also had problems sometimes.. unfortunately the BT "standard" is too splintered to always get full compability I also find it appalling that BMW have not checked whether the worlds most sold phone manufacturer is compatible with their BT. A S-E K790 or a K800 are pretty good phones and their BT "might" work better. (BTW the N80s camera is actually quite good..)

oh and before we complain too much about the oldness of phones available with BMW BT full compatibility, remember that it used to be one, or two models of phones with a ridiculous price, and usually the phones were old as well (motorola something or other for the e39 etc.). SO now its better, but not perfect.. always room for improvement..

Yeah, I'm actually leaning toward the Sony Ericsson K790 now... but I'm wondering not only how long until it's actually available, but also what carrier will it first be sold by (Cingular, Verizon, etc.) and most importantly, when can I buy an unlocked one?

I think they've already started to ship the K800 in the UK, BUT that version lacks the EDGE which is useful for the folks here in the US when we want to browse online.

Honestly, I really liked the Nokia N80... camera is nice, and I loved the slide-form. Oh well... guess it just wasn't meant to be. Time to ask the nice cellphone people for a refund.

Well for the time being, I'll just keep using the SE W600i I suppose. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Nokia phones have problems with the phonebook transfer so try them before you buy them. I have a 6682 I use as a doorstoop because of this. I went to the SLVR and it works very well. Even though it is an "approved" phone there is one very random BT bug but otherwise all is well and the batt life is very good.

The Motorola Razr works well, the only complaint is battery life. Bluetooth sucks up a lotta power.

Nokia 6230i works a treat if it's a newish one with fairly up to date firmware.

Cingular 8125 aka HTC Wizard. Awesome phone. WM5 on this is much better than the Moto Q.

I keep it in the charger in the car to avoid the drain.
