First comparison: M5 vs E63 AMG

From german automotorsport

Winner by 7 points, E63 AMG, Best allrounder, best comfort

M5 sportier and better handling. As usually complaints on SMG

I don't care who the winner is.. The M5 was far better in both slalom and straight line performance... I love the beast

EDIT: And now I just noticed the braking distances too

I cant really see what is the genious thing about AMG's first engine build for a production car. Its 6.3L 514hp and 630nm..

almost 10 years ago BMW came out with its 5.0L S62 engine.. 400hp, 500nm on a WIDE range of revs...

I wonder what the outcome would be if BMW would build a 6.3L V10.. Probably we would see a minimum of 630hp.

To be honest I am surprised that the M5 is that much faster than the E63 , the M5's 100-200 is faster by 1.8 seconds than the E63 which is a big margin.

AMG cars can only compete with M cars in straight line performance and comfort so I am surprised they let one slip out of their hands.

why are you surprised? auto tranny (17+% losses), 100kg heavier.. besides i am positive the merc is geared tall and in reality is putting less hp to the ground than the m5 above 4000 or so rpms..

as i've said before- different philosophies for different audiences...

Due to faster shifting and a better launch in average. You can be faster with the manual than the auto gearbox in the turbo if you are really good with a manual.

That Merc is a damn fine car. I've now seen two S550's around - one black, one silver and they are very impressive in the flesh.

Something doesn't seem quite right here. The mfg. spec's on the E63 indicate it's quicker than the M5. In the testing, both cars are slow, but the E63 is pitifully slow - a 2 second gap to 200 kph is huge. If this is indicative of the true acceleration of the AMG, then MB has really missed the boat on that one. Hard to believe they'd introduce a car that's slower than the one it replaces.
