M5 v's 997 v's Gallardo v's M3CSL v's R34GTR

Hope this isn't a repost, cool video:

http://videos.streetfire.net/categor...E6FFC85226.htm

Do you think the M5 tyres were going off? Not sure why the R34 was playing down the back for so long! ?

Some great bits in the vid. like the M5 pulling away from the M3 etc.

Very nice video indeed. But somehow I think the japs are a lot biased towards the GT-R . Also, the driver of the M5 wasn't nearly as good as the others, he drifted too much for fast track racing.

I think he was drifting in the end - as his tyres were shot! it is a heavy car

The overall lap times put the M5 in 4th. (1.41.370) - not too bad considering how heavy it is and that it isn't really a circuit car

Do you think it would have been slightly different if it were for an M6 instead of an M5?
Anyway...i do agree that those japs are biased with some cars like GT-Rs or NSX. They can test even a carrera GT and find a 1993 NSX that will beat it

having been in a track prepped R34 Skyline GTR Spec V they do offer a tremendous amount of performacne but, also lack any sophistication and comfort when compared to the M5 or even the M3

here's a picture of the car I got a ride in

Maybe a little different, but the M5 and M6 are not what I would consider a circuit car's - they are just too heavy.

Even a slightly tuned RX-7 would give an M5 a very good run for its money around a circuit (especially a short circuit) - they are almost 700kgs lighter!! I know of a guy who has passed a few E60 ring taxi's around the ring with his RX-7!

If the M5/M6 was around 1400kgs it would be a VERY different story! That is why you see the M3 eventually overtaking the M5 - around a corner in the vid. I think - less weight to stop, less weight to get through a corner and less weight to power out of the corner - but on the straights the M5 is probably the fastest there in that vid.

that was a horrible piece of driving by the M5 driver. There were also no lines whatsoever.

The M5 driver hit the rev limiter a handful of times and when you do that it really bogs down the car till you drop back to 7,000 rpms...

He was also in the wrong gearing and out of the powerband almost everytime he came out of a corner.... Powerband seems to kick in at 5,500rpms

Looks like he was pressured by the Gallardo and started getting silly at the end drifitng the corners...

He's alot better than I would be, but some of those other drivers were better... the driver in the gtr was doing some fancy footwork

Does anyone know here who was driving the M5?

This guy is Tsuchiya, the Drift Master of all times, and enjoys the greatest respect for his driving.
Obviously, such setups are not characterised by exhibiting the highest and finest driving techniques by all very qualifiede participants, but rather have an entertaining view. Think of it like the Jap's Top Gear!

This video is actually a clip from a Best Motoring DVD that is sold worldwide (+ can be found via torrents )

Tsuchiya rulez...

Cheers,

Theo-san
