M5 drifting, and 1/8th mile stats *video link*

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/w...55a4c6759d.htm

Ignore the inside joke comments about the "ball party" lol, Skip like 1/2 into the video to see my poor attempts at drifting, and then finally figuring out how to handle 507 hp lol. I kept putting too much throttle and going into a donut so I just stopped and started over until I got it down.

I also took the car to the 1/8th mile recently... anyone have times I can compare to? I wasn't getting very good launches, too much wheelspin... Best I could get was a 8.5, and they were telling me if I was a tenth faster on the 60 ft I would have to go get a helmet

I had a clutch overheating issue at the track though, I did do a fair amount of runs, but I noticed the clutch seemed to have problems engaging as I came up to the line, and it threw me a overheated warning so I just coasted down the track at like 20mph and let it cool for awhile.

It happend to me only once before when doing donuts.... The clutch seems to skip when you step lightly on the gas when its very heated up. It goes away after you let it cool back down, or it will throw a warning like it did at the track.

Car has been behaving well though, I am looking to go do the M experience soon, going to make a call in a couple days. No problems, and have treated it well, and in return it treats me well and hugs me everytime I get in the car I hug it back lol

I was running some 8.2-8.3 sec 1/8 mile times with a topspeed of 94 mph back in March (it was pretty cold). Now my best is 8.4 sec at 92 mph. Of course, these are Gtech, not dragstrip numbers, so there might be some error, but I believe the numbers should be pretty close. Here's the thread:

Anyone else running Gtech Pro?

My best 60' time is 2.074 sec. I'm having a heck of a time doing much better - I can get 2.1's all day just stabbing the throttle with DSC off. I've got a few more techniques I'd like to try, and the road traction probably isn't anywhere near as good as a strip. What were your 60' times?

My best run was 8.6 @ 87.12mph with a 60' of 2.188

the rest of my runs were mostly 8.8 with a couple 9.0s from just full throttling lol...

I believe the 8.8's were with the U.S. spec LC... can't remember now...

I had a very hard time getting traction and was just spinning 1/3 of the way down the 1/8th

I had another 60' at 2.186 but that run was a 8.7 @ 86.17mph

Reaction time on both those runs were .560-70

The track I was at is notorious for having very bad traction, hopefully will get down to bradenton soon at the 1/4th mile

Oh I'll mention it was very hot, and that it was actually just drizzling on a couple runs.... that eventually stopped... it was pretty bad then, I got the car almost sideways on a run and almost into the opposing lane of traffic lol

they were like the next time that happens let off, I was sad, I did let off but I almost had it sticking lol... it was drizzling too much

Venon...no track time for me yet or even drag strip, though that might be happening sooner or later here. There is something in the manual about the experience you had with the clutch as it gets hot. Apparently it's normal.

What gear were you using for the drift? Haven't tried yet in my E60, but my E39 would only get busy on the drift pad in 2nd gear. In first you don't have enough wheel sping to really turn the rear of the car loose. Ready to give it a try in the new ride, just can't bring myself to bake those tires down...

I was just in 1st gear the whole time... you really dont need to use much throttle to get the drift going, that was my mistake... I was flooring it and turning left then right....

when all I needed to do was just lightly break traction....

The runflats don't cook that fast, they are very hard and I've not really noticed alot of wear after doing 3 drift sessions, a track day, and a small handful of street launches

Your tires are fine to drift once lol

Too much throttle, and the counter steer is too late. Every car is different, but enjoy learning the cars limits!

didn't think the car came with run-flats as they aren't very compatible with the M suspension.
