Another Blow for BMW

Good god!!! What the heck happened here? have you guys seen the new 7 Series? Looks like BMW took the frontend of a Hyundai XG300 and hooked it up to the back of a Ford Escort. Where do they think they are going with this? If this is the new look BMW is leaning too, I sorry, but there wont be anymore BMW's in my family.

You know, I used to think the earlier series BMWs looked a bit dated. E30, E34, even E36 to some degree. But with the E39 / E39 and current 7 (not sure which that is) I really have to say I like them _all_. I look at a seven an think wow, BMW really knows how to make a big car look sporty and nice. It doesn't even look as big as it is.

So seeing the rework done for the updated e46, and the newer 5 and 7, it appears as though it's not the same team of designers. I think the current styles could be made to to look more modern and appealing, better than these new designs we've seen. Somebody at BMW needs to shake their head, because the response has been unanimously poor, far as I know. Must be the same team who decided LSB was the only blue for USA, and Gloss Black Trim was the only trim required.

I think auto makers do this every 5 to 7 years... come out with something ugly as sin so that next year they can remodel it beautiful and look like heros.

I take it you guys have seen the up and coming 3 series, this looks like a UK Rover 200 from the front. A complete change it appears.

That picture has got to be a joke or ruse by BMW to throw off the competition.

I haven't seen anything quite so ugly since GM came out with some atrocious-looking cars in the early 1970s like the AMC Gremlin or Pacer. They still haven't recovered.

these pictures are computer generated, look at the bottom pic, you can see that rear of the car is twisted and difference in color of the trunk lid and rest of the car...
In reality it looks pretty close but not that bad.... at least I hope not

Those cars(pacer and gremlin) are not GM cars, they are AMC cars(later bought by chrysler, now part of DaimlerChrysler). But your right GM hasn't recovered since the 70's. They have broken the tha 25% market share barrier and are quickly heading downward. If they continue at this pace they will soon be a marginal(10% market share) producer.

Regards/Robert

I deeply regret to tell all of you that that is what is the new 7 series looks like, FOR REAL. Here is a link to the official BMW.com site, if you look to the left side of the webpage there should be a link to "the pinnicale", reffereing to the 7 Series. Its not just a bad dream that you can wake up from guys, this is the real thing...

well, it looks like you'll have to keep hold of your current BM's for a while, until a decent designer is employed by BMW for the re-hash of this lot.
I have seen some details of the proposed line up, and some of them look fine, but others UUUUUUURRGHHHHH.
But then, everybody frowned upon the Ford Sierra when it was launched here back in the 80's, but it became acceptable.
I'm sure BMW have done some market research, (then again they may have asked the old Bangle, and he probably just said 'yup looks fine to me'???)

Pass me that sick bag.

I stand corrected on the AMC cars. Those cars just came to mind when I think about all the crap cars GM has given the world over the years - cheap plastics, shoddy and uninspired design, and don't-give-a-damn workmanship.

You are correct, they are doomed to be a bit player in the auto business, no matter how many former Proctor & Gamble marketing and branding executives they hire.
