coolant leak between engine and transmission

I noticed a coolant leak yesterday morning and the dealer states it is a leak between the engine and the transmission. How bad is this? They say that the engine has to be pulled to check the gasket ($1300.00 minimum).
What does anyone think?

Coolant leak between engine and trans. should only be one thing, a freeze plug (core plug). Okay I've never been inside this area on my car but unless the S62 has some gasket back there that no other has, I'd be surprised. I'd also think pulling the transmission would be an easier operation to access this area. A correct diagnosis, however, is the first step.

There are several coolant hoses which run near the top of the bell housing...which don't cost $1300.00 miniumum If one of these hoses is leaking, that would be in the area you describe.

I would get a second opinion.
