How Do I Get The Beast On A Track (NY)

Sorry for being such a newbie guys. This is my first real car and I love to drive it but I find the public roads a bit dangerous. I want to open this thing up on a Track and (still going to m experience next month) have some fun. I will pay whatever fees/memberships required and just want some open access to a track to excercise my right foot. Thanks for your help in advance...

Browse for your area. You don't necessarily need to go to track with BMW clubs. Other clubs will generally take out-of-species cars if space is available.

Best bet is the Drivers Schools. You will get some time with instructors (you drive, they instruct) and generally some classroom/cone exercises as well.

I don't think you'll have much luck finding "open access" to tracks until you get signed off to "solo" the track first.

BMWCCA Driver schools at Lime Rock

Make sure that you join BMWCCA and get to the drivers schools at Limerock.
Just as mentioned above, the Audi, Porsche, Ferrari clubs all run there too.

Great track, not that far from NYC and great instructors.

Of all that I've tried, this is one of the best:

www.trackmasters.com

The events at Watkins Glen are their most popular.

While on the subject, I am a member of Motorsports Ranch outside Ft. Worth, TX (www.motorsportranch.com) Happy to take a guest or two down sometime. Fridays are my day of choice.

Not to steal Rob's thunder but the NJ chapter runs 6-7 schools a year and I instruct with the chapter. There are 2 schools at LRP coming up in April (don't think I'll make it...baby due on the 10th!) and in June and it's an easy drive. We also run schools down in W. Va at Summit Point.

Check out www.njbmwcca.org for details.

Not stealing my thunder. That's good info. This is actually the first year the NYRBMWCCA is actually doing track events again. Only two but it's better than nothing.

I'll have to see about attending a couple of the NJ regions events.

I second that!! As a member of both club chapters the NJ chapter does more driving schools than the NY chapter. Though the NY chapter has a really good Autocross schedule lined up. They do a nice job with that. In fact that is a great alternative to driving schools which fill up real fast. Autocrossing taught me car control....adn if you can fling that big beast around little cones without hitting them imagine what you will do at a track after a while

Best of Luck with the Beast
Regards to All
