It depends on which iPod connector you're getting. There's the one that you get instead of the nav system or the one that uses the headphone jack to go into the Aux input. It's a rather stupid choice, since I think most will want the Nav system, I know I did. Now I'm left with getting the Aux input done this week - it also has a power jack that keeps the ipod charged and doesn't drain the battery of the car when off. The sound wont be line-out, but at least it's better than the FM transmitter.

I wish BMW had a better solution for iPods.

Your dealer is wrong. The AUX jack is separate and is wired in through the back of the glove box. Both the AUX and the CD setting play as normal in my car.

It seems like these days, most don't.

I think you can get "line-out" quality from the pod if you go with an adapter like this one:

http://www.sendstation.com/us/produc...neout-usb.html

I bought one for a home-use hook up and it is considerably better than the 1/8" stereo out on top.

Agree that dealers are clueless

Can any of these solutions be controlled through the steering wheel buttons with song titles displayed through the Nav screen? Also, what is the cost of this solution?

Allow me to suggest using the search function--you'd be surprised what you'll find.

Talk about misinformation.

Here's a good example that you should never believe--on face value--what you read on the web...

So which iPod adapter are you referring to in red above? I believe it's the one that's not available on the E60, or any car with the MOST bus:
http://ipodyourbmw.com/

And your comments in blue above? Aux input that also charges the iPod? Can't use a line out? See this:
iPod hardwire install w/ line out

The one I was referring to in red is available on the new 3 series I know, and was told by the dealer it was an option on my M5, but becasue I didn't even consider it, I didn't check further. I would have thought if anyone wanted to they would have checked it further.

And you're right, the Aux power with line out will in fact work with one of these connecttors, which goes against what the dealer told me this am as I scheduled the work to be done. ...

I stand by the wish that BMW had better solutions.

The one you refer to in red is not available on the E90 3 series either--it's also a MOST bus system.

And there is no such thing as an "aux power with line out." There is an aux input, which provides no power to the audio device--it's a simple audio connection--see this post:

A guy I work with got a brand new 330 06 (I didn't say M3) and has the iPod integration and no Nav system. He gets his iPod info on that screen. What's up with that?

And the 'Aux Power with line out'.... should have said for line IN for the car, and line OUT from the ipod. That's what I ment.

Hope that finishes it... I was only trying to help. Man it sucks to be new to this list...
