Feedback on SES light on?

I started my car this morning, it was about 65 degrees. I gave it a little time to warm up. I drove about 1 block when my service engine soon light came on. It displayed that the vehicle has increased emissions.

How much is a little time?
And how long did the message stay lit? Page 54 in the manual states "do not allow the engine to warm up by leaving it running while the vehicle remains stationary. Instead, begin to drive immediately at a moderate speed." This car is monitored heavily by its computers and seems to give warning if it detects just the slightest variant. It does'nt take long for carbons and such to build up if you just sit and idle. Perhaps it's too sensitive. If the message persists then you should take it to service but I'm going to guess that you don't have a problem.

there is another thread on this topic, do a search. I have been wrestling with this issue myself and bmw doesn't have a clue. They will tell you the engine is misfiring and they will run a bunch of checks, tighten spark plugs, check fuel pressure systems, etc. bottom line - they don't know.
