M5's younger, poorer cousin ;o)

hi im new!

loving my E39, although ive found it very hard to find websites and forums that specialise in anything other than the E36 or the E46 which is why ive joined here. i know my car isnt an M5 but it is nice and aspires to be something more than merely the sum of its parts. here she is what do you think?

thanks for the welcome, i had to import the wheels from the sunny shores of the US of A as we cant get them over here in the UK without using one arm and one leg! lol one question i would like to ask is regarding the m5 mesh/grills. ive seen lots of grills with 2 cylindrical metal/aluminum/stainless ducts fitted into it that looks awesome, where do you get them from and how much? what they are called would also be of help letting me search etc...

They are air intake ports for a cold air intake system by Active Autowerkes.
They deliver fresh cold air to the intakes, incorporated with K&N filters and thet direct air to cool the brakes. But your car has one intake and one filter I believe so it want really work on your car I don't think. Also, I believe your car has the brake cooling vents already active. They were blocked off in the M5 for some reason at the factory. Click on the sponsor link at the very top of your screen called CA Automotive and look for cold air intakes.

ahhhhh i never realised that the M5 brake ducts were non functional? doesnt really make sense considering the M5 will probably need the extra cooling due to excessive brake use

checked it out and its a UK website, bring it on! to be honest i want the grill with the air ducts in just because it looks cool rather than functionality. ive got a Gruppe M replica kit on order with and extra cold air feed sorted so i dont really need them grill to be functional as you rightly suggest i only have the one air box and one air feed. its running rich at the moment (massively) so im off to get it on the diagnostic computers this afternoon to see if we can find the problem. thanks for all the nice comments, great to see people still appreciating someone else hard work and hard money spent!

I like your picture very nice looking BM. Bet it drives good too. I bet your well haps.
These M5 are Hi maintenance and you really only feel the M POWER after 4000 rpm, but its the whole feel of the car at speed that that make it Mtecnik.
I like all BMW just think there great cars they are just slightly higher maintenance than VWAudi Mercedes Benz.i think
Im new too i got a M5 e34 bought it with no service history but you could tell it had been looked after and i wanted a car with good body work and nice interior, low miles clean under the bonnet this car felt right.
Had some running problems thats how i come across this site found it very useful so far. Turns out my running problem was a engine tempsensor and a leaking injector common on the M5.
Ive still got my old 325i e30 1989 ive been driving it for 6 years now and still runs alright its done 165 000 miles.
If you want to really feel BMW technology drive your car to germany and experience autobahn.

If you like the look of the cold air intakes, you can go to a hardware store and get two sink drains. That is what people here use for a "homemade" cold air kit. You may see a reference to HD ducts. HD is short for Home Depot, a well known hardware chain in the U.S. Have fun!
