Post Tyres (or Tires!) for Alpina Cars

Dear All,

Can anyone suggest good sources (read into that 'keen prices') for new tyres either in the UK or Germany for Alpinas.

I am after a complete set for my Biturbo (235/45 & 265/40 ZR 17 - Michelin MXX2 or MXX3).

Thanks in advance.

Neil

Hi Neil,

I can't point you to a store in UK or Germany because live in Holland, but I can recommend the Bridstone Potenza S02 Pole Position for your Bi-Turbo. It is basically the same technology and material with the current F1 tires. If it's good enough for the Shoey and mates, it's good enough for me! On the serious side, I've been using this tire for two years on my Bi-Turbo and I am extremeley happy with it. By the way, to view a comparison of Max Performance Tires from Pirelli, Michelin and Bridstone goto http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/pzero_rosso.htm. Bridgestone achieved the fastest lap times on the track and best handling in the wet which is particulary important for me since it is raining most of the time in Holland.

Regards,

The correct URL in my previous message should exclude the dot at the end. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/pzero_rosso.htm

Hello Neil,

Be sure you get the Y rated tyres (up to 300km/h). ZR tyres come in two categories. First the W rating (up to 270km/h) and second the Y rating (up to 300km/h). But these maximum speed specifications reduce the maximum load of the tyre to 70% of the value specified. For heavy cars like the M5 or the B10 biturbo (and others) this is of serious importance. If you are not sure, check with your tyre supplier.

By the way, I use the Dunlop SP9000 on my M5 and like Ufuk says, I choose them due to the rain in Holland.

With best regards,

Raymond

Hello there,

Many thanks. My car is in Germany (as I am) at present and as the logbook shows Michelins as the original fitment tyres, I may have to put new Michelins back on.

Regards,

Neil

John,

Thanks for this. I have obtained a quote from them for a different car and they were considerably cheaper than the others. They have also quoted me on Michelins for the Biturbo (don't have the prices to hand, but is works out at a saving of ca £200 over other competitors for a set of 4 tyres.

Regards,

Neil

Dear Raymond,

An extremely useful and important bit of info, many thanks. I was almost buying some tyres when I asked the garage if they were 'Y' rated, and these particular tyres were not. Certainly a very important fact if you want to find out the max speed of your Biturbo!

Regards,

Neil
