My M3 thanks the M5 manual

Just something stupid to keep in mind that I completely forgot until RTFM for the E60. I have a 04 M3 w/ SMG and thought my clutch was feeling weird. Something just was not right with the SMG.... well, I FORGOT that if you have a tire / wheel change... (or maybe even driving for too long at underinflated tire pressures... ack), you need to RESET the "slip detection function of the M gearbox". In short, go between 20 and 90 MPH (of course subject to local traffic laws), pop the SMG in neutral, then pull back both paddles for approx 2 seconds. (pg 166 online manual).

So to all you folks out there changing wheels....

I have just finished reading the manual. There are all sorts of interesting things, like this, in the manual. When something doesn't seem correct, try reading the manual first, then check this board, then contact your dealer.

I am learning the critical stuff before my car comes in. Good reading to help familiarize yourself with the car before owning it.

Re: My M3 thanks the M5 manual

So after doing this, what happens when you pop the SMG back into drive? Does the SMG know what gear to select based on speed and RPM?

Watch for the anti-coasting nazis here.

Yes, it seems to pick the gear it would cruise in at the current speed.
