Need advice re. Oil Level!

I just had my 1200 mile service done yesterday (Saturday). I checked the oil level and it read 0.4 liter. I thought it funny that it was not all the way at 1.0, so I ran a diagnostic check for the correct level. The reading came up as 1.5 liters, and the iDrive oil check now says "too much oil--see service".
As it is Sunday, there is no way to take care of this today, unless someone can think of an easy way to remove half a quart of oil. I tried running a flexible hose down the oil filler tube to syphon some out, but that doesn't work. I need to drive to work tomorrow, and could stop by my dealer on the way home, but I am a bit concerned what with busted oil hoses etc. ( see other threads ). Any advice?

Drive to work then the dealer,,Keep your RPM's below 3k as RPM's build LBS per inch of oil.

Re: Need advice re. Oil Level!

bavarian,
i had the same problem and the dealer just lowered the level for me. they said that they put in 9L at the change as the manual tells them to. they didn't know why it show too much either. the car is new and the techs are barely a step a head of us BMW heads.

i got my wheels from lakeshore friday. they look goood..but replica if you will. they'll be perfect for winter wear. before i put them on , are you sure they fit well? have you driven with them yet?

Re: Need advice re. Oil Level!

Just a thought - could any of the leaks have been caused by overfilling?

Best regards,

Hi Max--they are still sitting in my garage waiting for bad weather. I tried them on once and rotated them to make sure they had lots of clearance. I don't know what could possibly cause any problems after that. We will only know for sure when they are on and we are driving in various conditions. If I didn't have such a good experience with my E66 winter wheels from the same place, I might be more concerned. I also was very impressed by the Blizzaks last year. If you happen to mount them first, please let me know how it works out.

Regarding the excessive oil, I'm not sure how much time I will have to visit the dealer to have some oil taken out before my holiday road trip on Tuesday. Otherwise I will take it easy on the car (wife and kids are coming, anyway) and hope that the 250 odd miles down will burn some oil off...

Best regards,
Hi Spiroman - no is the answer to your question!

As I have said on a few threads - check underneath your car for leaks if it is going through oil more so than you think it should be.
