Automatic headlight sensitivity
For those of us that were wondering why the lights were on a lot during day time, I asked my technician at the dealer and this is the response I got.
When the sensor sees/feels a shadow for 5 seconds, the lights turn on. After they are on there has to be 40 sedonds of direct uninterrupted sunlight coming to the sensors for it to turn off again.
Hope this helps to some of you.

Re: Automatic headlight sensitivity
Thanks. Did the technician indicate whether the sensitivity level can be adjusted as some have suggested?

He said that they did some tests and that it was set in the correct level. I had asked them to lower the sensitivity level but they didn't. He said that the setting usually comes pretty low. If I remember right, he said there are a few levels, Low sensitivity, medium, and high. Apparently mine was in low. And my lights still turn on frequently I wonder what high sensitivity is like

I appreciate the information. I will see if I can make any headway when I have my 1,200 mile service done, and will report if I learn anything different.

The one thing I mentioned them and they didn't know was, when you put the car in reverse the passenger side mirror goes down. But in mine it goes down too much so it becomes useless. Ashok had said that it is possible to adjust that at the dealer but they didn't know how to. I'd appreciate it if you could ask your dealer about this as well. Thanks.

Re: Automatic headlight sensitivity
Auto headlight sensitivity can be adjusted by the dealer pulling up car/key memory settings. Mine was set at sensitive at the factory. Search for my posts from last week and you'll see what else can be changed.

Hey,
Have you tried to adjust it while your in reverse and the mirrors are down? I know that mercedes are adjusted that way but I never tried it in the M5.
Hope it helps.

you can also set it so it doesnt go on at all... another cool feature with memory setting is that you can set the side mirrors to move up and down when locking and unlocking the vehicle...

You can't do this because for the mirror to go down in reverse you have to have the drivers side mirror selected. So if you try to adjust it the drivers side changes.
BD 997 - I will try to get that done when I bring my car in on Monday for the oil filter change now that they have recieved it. Assuming that this tropical storm/hurricane Gamma won't come towards us.

Also see this PDF on the settings in CKM which are dealer and owner controlled.

Interesting document, thanks for that.
I noticed it says "Confirmation - Acoustically when locking/unlocking", it also says "Customer selectable using the Control Display".
Do any of your cars beep when locking/unlocking? Becuase mine doesn't. Also I don't remember seeing an option for this in any idrive menu. I've seen the option for the flashing when locking/unlocking.
