Not convinced with the new M5 yet

Maybe this isnt what most want to hear but im giving my opinion here.. Im considering a new car soon and the M5 is 1 of the options... there is currently 7 M5s available but it hasnt hit me yet.. Its shape isnt wow.. i hate the interior... and the SMG doesnt help at all..

Im looking for a practical car and dont mind it being sporty.. so the M5 falls in that category but i have problems with it.. I might be jumping the gun but i probably need a test drive before making my final decision.. that might be soon cuz a friend owns 1 back in Bahrain.. but im still not sure it should be my next car.. im also looking at the new S8 which should be out in the summer... V10 450bhp doesnt sound bad at all... oh well a decision.. decision... should be made

If you don't like the looks, interior and gearshift mechanism. I don't see what you're agonising over.

The first two points are purely subjective and noone can advise you that the car looks great or that the interior is cool.

You haven't driven the car so I'm not sure what your comment about SMG not helping is based on other than some pre-conceptions.

All in all I'd say buy the Audi.

Personally, I think that would be a mistake but it's you money and you have to make this decision on yer own.

You won't be alone if you decide aginast it but then 1000's think differently, hense the 'Sold Out' sign till 2008!

Whatever decision you make - enjoy the car you buy!

I wouldn't dream of spending $100k with that degree of ambivalence. Get something you love or stick with what you have. Spread some karma by allowing some other guy that does have the love to get the car still in short supply.

Tom

Well, if you can test drive it then of course do. Seen a lot of people loosing their hesitation after testing it...

Re: Not convinced with the new M5 yet

I have about 1M miles in cars split evenly between auto & manuals, and I prefer manual over auto. So far, I like the SMG. I'm keeping it in manual mode, as D is barely a substitute for an auto. I like manual mode and can make the shifts smooth enuf so that the passenger isn't bobbing and I can control when the up/down shifts occur. It took a week and 700 miles to get to that point. Now its all becoming 2nd nature.

I can only suggest that you try the SMG for an extended test drive and play with the various settings, foot lifting tecniques etc before you make your decision.
