What is Delivery Miles?

I was adamant with my salesman that I wanted to drive in my car properly.(eg no joyrides from the sales staff)I can imagine the sales guys wanting to do a bunch of lauch controls to see the limits of the car.

Those of you who received your M5 how many miles were on the odometer?

My last E36 had 6 miles when i took delivery.

Re: What is Delivery Miles?

Most dealers have one of their techs take the car for a pre-delivery "test drive". Insist on being in the passenger seat when they take the car out on the road to do their pre-delivery list of things to check and adjust.

Best regards,

Re: What is Delivery Miles?

The tech is not going to want a passenger. If you are a regular customer at the dealership however, you might want to ask to choose the tech for your car. This is not nearly as unreasonable as riding with the tech and creates a level of accountability.

If you know the techs, riding shotgun shouldn't be a problem. Worked just fine for me when I took delivery of my M3.

Best regards,

Spiroman

Never had an issue being in the car for the test drive. After owning four E39 M5's I know more than them anyway. It is completely reasonable to be there for any test drive. My M5's NEVER had more than 1.5 miles on the clock when it rolled off the truck. You will also be able to find out from the dealer when the car has been released from the VPC. You can then track the car and expected drop time from transporter. Also, I NEVER NEVER NEVER let the prep guys wash or wax the car.

there can be a lot of abuse in 4km (burnout, donuts and LC to name a few).

Too bad but there is not much we can do about it but hope for the best, my last experience with a salesman at my BMW dealer road testing a 645 was quite eye opening on that subject, to say the least..

I will demand my car not to be road tested by anyone other than the tech, but that alone is not a guaranty that it will not be abused.

The car IS dirty at delivery. This guarantees that the car is unmolested by, with my experience, substandard dealer prep guys.

Interesting...how do you know about paint defects and scratches if it is dirty? Doesn't seem like one average wash would hurt.
