Re: BMW Night Vision and High-Beam Assist

High beam Assist:
I think it has a small camera mounted where the light/rain sensor is. It can detect lights from oncoming traffic aswell as rear red lights from other vehicles travelling the same way and so switches to low beam accordingly. When it doesn`t detect any vehicle lights it switches to high beam.

I`m not sure about night vision but it must be something similar to Mercedes` system.

Are you saying the M5 will have both features, or just the High-Beam Assist?

Wolverine, the first cars we get in the US will be the 2006 models and these options are not yet being made available in the US for order on these cars. Probably later in the model year they will be, or maybe for orders taken after September/October.

I'll be bummed if they start offering these options a few months after I've ordered!

High beam assist seemed to be added just weeks after I finalised the spec on my car. However since I go on holiday this week and my car will be waiting at the dealership when I return I'm not too put out by missing on this option.

Re: BMW Night Vision and High-Beam Assist

BMW electronic accessories are not very well implemented and subject to gremlins, particularly when first introduced. BMW do seem to get the electronics for engine, suspension, and drive control down very well, and this is obviously where the research money is spent -- not in accessory development. That being said, I am a techo-freak and wil probably get any high-tech option offered. I guess I'll be helping them debug their beta test implementation in the first production models.
