Installing xenon bulbs Into hid lamps HELP Please!!!

Ok, so I picked up a set of 01 m5 headlights (xenon) and I bought a set of ballasts and bulbs off an 01 540i. Now im trying to stick the bulbs into the socket and no go... I mean they go into the rubber section but there is no way they attach securly to the plastic, as in they do not lock in place. Is this how they are supposed to be or am I just not sticking them in right?
