Direction of rotation for "throwing star alloys"

I have just purchased a used '93 M5 which I am totally awed with! I have been a "passive listener" of this board for over a year and have been impressed with the thoughtful and extrememly helpful responses the members of this board provide. It is largely due to this forum that I took the plunge and purchased a used M5. Now that I've kissed up to all of you I have a question. The vehicle has "flying star "alloys. One diagonal pair is mounted such that the leading edge of the pattern is beveled and the other diagonal pair is mounted the reverse, with the leading edge being the blunt edge of the pattern. Which direction is correct or does it not matter? The tires are non-directional. Thanks in advance. JT

JT.
The throwing stars look like stylised propellers. Their function is to expell air out from underneath the car, creating a modicum of ground effect (I doubt that) and cooling the brakes (much more credible).
So you have to put them so that the sharp edge faces forward in the direction of rotation, the blunt edge backwards.
You mention that the tires are non-directionnal, but I guess you know that you can't just put the right wheel on the left side, unless the tires are new.
If I were you, I would have the tires dismounted and put on the right rim. This will save you from the aggravation of removing the star covers, which can get real hard...believe me.
BTW, for anecdotal information, the "turbine" covers were much better at cooling the brakes by their design. Too bad they are such a PITA to keep clean.
Regards, George
