DME codes

I have heard of a way to bring up past error codes on M5's equiped with the onboard computer. I was told that there is a way to have the computer show old error codes, and messages. I would find this information especially useful when thinking about purchasing a second hand M5.

Does anybody know anything further about these codes. (Other than what is posted on Jonh Robinson's page?)

Thanks!

Angry

i think those flash codes only work on us specification cars, because european models do not have the enginecheck lamp.
a did try a few times, and after looking in the instrument cluster i noticed that there is no lamp behind the checkengine light, even after putting a lamp in it those codes didn't come up,same thing after disconnecting a few wires at the engine to make sure it should give an error .

Is there a way to look up other types of error codes with out extra equiptment. such as fault codes on the euro models. Or will a dealer be able to plug the car in and find past error codes.

If this is possible, I find this to be a very valueable way to check out the history of these engines, as long as these error messages have not been erased.

Thanks

Only the dealer can read out and delete the DME codes with MODIC, the BMW diagnose system. there is no possibility to read these codes on another way.
