Post How expensive are these cars to own?

I'm thinking of buying a -90 BMW M5. The cars I've been looking at has about 100.000 miles on them. How reliable can one expect them to be, if service is done according to the book? Also, if they break down, how expensive are they to repair? I'm not going to use the M5 as a daily-driver.

Thank you

Tobias Åsbrink, Sweden

how much would it cost to buy one of these in relatively good condition with a decent amount of mileage. The later years are the models i am interested in. Thanks

I bought my 1992 last Fall for $19000 US and it was a salvage title car. Looks and drives great and had only 72K miles. A non-crash car was selling for $5K to $10K more depending on mileage etc. The E28 is now around $12K to $16K average it seems.
I know repairs and parts are expensive, but usually there is a way to get less expensive alternatives from rebuilders, used parts, etc. I personally believe it is worth it because of what the car is....it satisfies my need for performance and looks. what is that worth?
I can afford it now. As a youth I could not have. Be sure you have the money to keep it repaired...then just enjoy it. Parts may be different price/availability in other countries too...
Regards,
Bill Klemme

Hello Tobias,
These are good cars if they have been seviced correctly. And since you are looking at a 3.6 you may want to know that several mekanics i have been speaking to tell me that it is moore reliable than the 3.8.
The big costs are exhaust, incurance and larger engine/transmission repair. You may want to find a smaller repair shop that knows M cars because BMW here in Sweden are about twice as expencive.

Thank you for your comments. I'll continue looking for a well maintained 3.6 and buy one in the (nearest) future. I'll keep you posted.
