Interesting data folks.

I have a total count of 154. This number includes those who have not responded to this thread but their data was available from prior posts. (i.e. Marlin, Lear, Strawberry, several members of the NY posse, etc..)

The data is as follows:

Color, no surprise here. Titanium is the favorite. But the unexpected surprise was that Carbon turned out to be a close second.

At one point (#s 124 - 130) there are 7 consecutive Titaniums. While I'm far from a stats stud, the chance of this I believe is literally 1 in 10 million (as is the likelihood of each of the other possible permutations for 7 cars, but 7 Titaniums in a row in particular is kind of cool...).

This probability assumes an equal distribution of 10 exterior colors (as there are for '01 standard colors -- no offense meant to Avus Blue people http://www.bmwm5.com/ubb/wink.gif ). There are probably some other additional statistical analysis assumptions in all this, too, but I'm not sure which ones I might have made. It's been a while since my last stats class.

I'd imagine somebody out there can figure out what the actual probability of 7 of a color in a row is, knowing how many colors actually are available and also in the hands of actual board members. I'm not about to tackle that one...

BMW NA dutifully reports detailed sales data for the U.S. only. According to their various press releases, thru 1/31/01 3,789 E39 M5's have been sold since deliveries began in October 1999. Assuming there are 150 US cars on this board that's about 4%.

That number will only increase as more owners find out about this "terrific" site.

As far as colors and worldwide distribution goes, all I can say is: "NA" (not available).

But I'm sure some BMW insiders have access to all that information.

Delivered 2/2000, broke 19,000 miles yesterday. Had clutch replaced under warranty, ordered B&B exhaust today, scheduled install 3/5.

This board has definitely been helpful with my clutch replacement issue and choosing an exhaust. THANKS.

I cruise the Route 202 corridor between Malvern & King of Prussia, and through Valley Forge National Park, in the past year I have probably seen about 10-12 M5's around. If there are some Eastern/Southeastern PA owners on the board, please mail me if your
interested in getting together. I only know one owner locally (went to the Driving Experience with him and had a blast).

btw I/mm 33 years old, married 9 1/2 years, no kids, traded a '97 540 6-speed for my beast, and self-employed.
