Had a very short dabble with an E55 AMG
I was just overtaking some traffic on a dual carriage way and there was a merc right up my backside. I dropped a cog and put my foort down from about 50 to 90+ I put about 2-3 car lenghs betwen us, I then started to move away but had to slow to turn off at the next roundabout as I slowed he caught me up very quickly and past. I clocked the back as I was astonished that a bloody Merc had nearly kept up, I then saw the E55 AMG badge !!!
If I had known I would of gone that way to see how quick they really are. I'm convinced he was flat out as I was and I put distance between us....
Is it possible my beauty is quicker than an E55 AMG ? Would be well chuffed if it is !

Re: Had a very short dabble with an E55 AMG
I doubt that the E39 would pull on the E55 from a rolling start. Or from standstill for that matter.. Maybe he just got the car and was running it in or something?

Re: Had a very short dabble with an E55 AMG
If he wasn't trying he would of dropped back at a much quicker rate ! Either he was trying at 95% or he was at 100%

Was it a 2001-2003 E55 or a 2003+ model. Ive pulled some space on the old model but doubt that I could on the latest as it has serious grunt. If it drives like the SL55 then I suggest he maybe had his fat wife in the passenger seat and a new born baby in the back!
Are you anywhere near Welwyn GArden City??

just trawling the net and found this which I thought was a laugh.
You cannot tell what mods are on each car but you can produce a list of 4 cars for comparison of drag times on
dragtimes.com

Re: Had a very short dabble with an E55 AMG
cool site.... you can see ALL the mods are on the car..... click on the car's time...
http://www.dragtimes.com/compare2.ph...=30&model2=483
like this one has a chip and pulley, running high 11's at over 118MPH:
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...slip-2971.html
only the upcoming M5 has a chance against the 2003+ E55's.....
