          Re: PORSCHE 996 911TT or E60 M5???

Nobody on this forum has driven the E60M5 to give you any personal thought. I think the biggest factor is whether you want stick shift vs SMG III transmission. I predict that the people (me included) who had put down a deposit and eventually end up NOT buying the E60M5 is mainly because it does not have stick shift. Performance wise the E60M5 will become the king of sport sedan, there is no question about that. The price should be very similar to the E55 AMG so there should not be a surprise there. The 996TT is a perfect sport car, but with the introduction of 997 and then the 997TT in a year or two, its resale value may be affected. This should be considered depending on how long you want to keep it. Happy Motoring!

N.B. I have driven both the stick shift and tiptronic 996TT and find the car very fast and balanced obviously, way faster than my 993. But yet feeling a bit frustrated in city driving as you have to slow down right away after shifting into second gear. But I guess this applies to all the other fast cars out there.

It depends on what purpose you are willing to use it for. TT if you don't need to carry lots of luggage nor 4-5 people, M5 if you want a luxury sedan which has the capabilities of outrunning most of the cars that you will come across. If you really want a TT then I would sudjest that you wait for another year or so untill the 997TT is out, I'll bet it will look better than the 996 and it will almost certainly perform better too.

A question you may consider is the following: Do you like an introvert or an extrovert sportscar?

the e60 m5 will easily out perform a 996tt in terms of acceleration

          yet another one of these...

          The same question applies...

Should you take the apple.... or the orange?

Follow your mind and heart, why ask for the opinion of someone else (who you don't know mind you)? I can understand asking about known problems, etc... but I for one would never buy a car based on the opinions of someone else.

A little bit of research on the board here will net you all of the "known" performance data on both cars, since I am sure the TT stats have been posted fairly recently.

          ...may be a 3rd choice...new 997S.

...try it, it does a Hockenheim ring in almost the same time as 911TT...
