Re: How hot do oil temps of the M5/Z8 get?

With the CAI installed, my oil temp is about 140 or so degress normally and water temp is left of middle position on the guage (no number provided on the guage). Normally, the stock M5 runs aronud 180 for oil temp and middle of the guage for water temp. Hope this helps.

Hi T.C.,

Question how do you know or how did you determine your oil temperature before and especially after degrees?
Last, what CAI system do you have on your ride?
Thank you.
Robert

Re: Hi T.C.,

Robert:

I took notice of the oil temp. guage on the dash. I did not use any specific tool to measure it, just using the stock guage readout. I am running the Automotive Specialist CAI now (similiar to the AA or HD setup). I was surprised to see such a dramatic decrease in oil temp after adding the CAI, but it has happened on both cars we have installed the system on.

Can you tell me exactly what a CAI system is - how much is it, where do you get it etc.

Is it the two air holes installed in the grille that I have seen on some of the M5's?

Thanks

Re: Hi T.C.,

tranck:

CAI= cold air intake, and you have some options on what version you want to get. Prices and designs vary on the type you want. Thw two rings in the center grill are indeed from the AA or AS CAI systems. They act as air intakes. Try running some searches on the board for more in depth info, but I can sum up some of the options available now...

- Dinan CAI
- Active Autowerke CAI
- Gruppe M CAI
- Automotive Specialist CAI
- Home Depot CAI

Hope this helps.

It depends on a few factors, of course. Normal around town driving, cool weather, oil temp is generally 180-200 (according to the gauge). Summer temps are a bit higher, but generally not much beyond the halfway point (210). On the track, i have seen it creep up to around the 3/4 mark, so maybe 240.
Coolant temps are just to the left of center, cool weather, no traffic, no a/c. Dead center under higher loads.
Mike

Re: How hot do oil temps of the M5/Z8 get?

my car's oil temp used to run in the high 80's ( celsius ) when stock. After installing the AA CAI, it stays at 75 degrees and lowerduring mild driving.
